What You'll Be Doing

  • Provide direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse
  • Obtain and document vital signs and other patient information
  • Monitor cardiac rhythms and communicate rhythm changes to the care team
  • Perform 12-lead EKGs and support telemetry monitoring activities
  • Assist with telemetry setup, troubleshooting, and discontinuation as appropriate
  • Support patients with activities of daily living, mobility, and comfort needs
  • Assist with patient transport, admissions, discharges, and diagnostic testing
  • Document patient care and cardiac monitoring activities accurately
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized patient care environment
  • Support unit operations, patient safety initiatives, and quality care standards
  • Collaborate with nurses and other healthcare professionals to support individualized patient care plans

Orientation Requirement

Full-Time, Part-Time, and PRN team members must be able to commit to full-time orientation hours during the first 6-8 weeks of employment.

Orientation consists of three 12-hour day shifts (6:00 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.) each week and includes role-specific training, competency validation, cardiac monitoring, telemetry, EKG education, and patient care onboarding.

What Is Required (Education)

  • High School Diploma or GED required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous healthcare experience
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification
  • Basic medical terminology knowledge
  • Completion of at least one Medical-Surgical hospital nurse rotation
  • Patient Care Technician/Assistant experience in a healthcare setting

Additional Requirements

  • BLS certification required by the end of orientation and must be maintained throughout employment
  • Successful completion of organization, unit, and job-specific competencies within the orientation period
  • Successful completion of Basic EKG training with a minimum score of 80% within one year of hire
  • Ability to flex into a Monitor Technician role as needed based on unit needs
  • Completion of rhythm recognition training within one year if assigned monitor technician responsibilities
  • Completion of required telemetry precepting and competency validation
  • Ability to read and interpret data from cardiac monitoring equipment and computer systems
  • Ability to gather patient information and communicate findings appropriately to the Registered Nurse
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and members of the healthcare team
  • Ability to accept delegation, prioritize tasks, and respond to changing patient needs
  • Basic computer proficiency and experience using electronic medical records
  • Ability to safely assist with patient transfers, lifting, repositioning, and mobility needs
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including lifting up to 50 pounds and assisting with patient movement and transfers
