Job Summary
Responsible for diagnostic cardiac or vascular ultrasound, providing cardiologists with measurements and accurate images of cardiac structures for accurate diagnosis. Immediate feedback with preliminary reports of critical results to nurses and physicians is crucial for life-saving treatment intervention. Assists physicians with studies and aids in complex procedures to decrease potential procedural risks, including procedures in the OR, Hybrid lab, Cath lab, and CAD, such as TAVR, SAVR, Tandem heart, Lariet procedures, and pseudoaneurysm compression.
Job Responsibilities
- Demonstrates correct technique, efficiency, and judgment in advanced cardiac and/or peripheral vascular procedures.
- Performs adult and/or pediatric cardiac ultrasound procedures, including TEE and stress echo, or performs peripheral vascular procedures such as arterials, renals, and transcranial Doppler.
- Reviews pertinent patient data and reports before procedures.
- Operates equipment necessary for optimal diagnostic recording; utilizes ancillary devices such as selected transducers and digital networking systems.
- Exercises appropriate judgment in notifying abnormal results to reading physicians and reports findings to cardiologists.
- Assists physicians with complex procedures to decrease procedural risks, including TAVR, SAVR, Tandem heart, Lariet procedures, and pseudoaneurysm compression.
- Maintains proper documentation according to lab, departmental, and hospital policy.
- Accurately documents all procedures and processes charging and other necessary data efficiently.
- Collaborates in maintaining departmental efficiency and anticipates equipment and supply needs.
- Supports unit/hospital goals through QA and educational activities and maintains current competency and registry in two specialty practices.
- Participates in departmental QA and National Accreditation processes and complies with hospital policies.
- Promotes safety and maintains confidentiality for patients, employees, physicians, and corporate matters.
- Collaborates effectively with all healthcare team members.
- Exercises independent judgment in decision-making from diversified alternatives.
- Coordinates activities of others and leads others in similar work without supervisory responsibilities.
- Engages directly with patients, customers, and healthcare professionals.
Required Skills & Experience
- Six (6) months of related experience.
- Ability to work independently and utilize critical thinking skills.
- Effective communication with surgeons, physicians, and healthcare staff regarding cardiac ultrasound results.
- Ability to serve in on-call rotation after regular business hours.

Required Education
- High School diploma or GED.
Preferred Education
- Graduate of Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound or Cardiac Ultrasound certification program.
Required Certification & Licensure
- Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), or
- Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
- BLS certification.
