    Cardiology Nurse Practitioner/ Physician Assistant – Job Description

    Position SummaryThe Cardiology Nurse Practitioner/ Physician Assistant provides advanced practice nursing care to patients with acute and chronic cardiovascular conditions. Working collaboratively with cardiologists and the multidisciplinary care team, the NP/PA is responsible for assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of cardiac patients in outpatient, inpatient, and/or procedural settings.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including histories and physical examinations
    • Diagnose and manage cardiovascular conditions under applicable scope of practice and clinical guidelines
    • Develop, implement, and monitor evidence-based treatment plans
    • Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic studies such as EKGs, echocardiograms, stress tests, and laboratory tests
    • Prescribe and manage cardiovascular medications and therapies
    • Provide inpatient rounding and cardiovascular consults as assigned
    • Assist with and/or perform procedures within scope of practice
    • Educate patients and families on cardiac conditions, medications, risk-factor modification, and disease prevention
    • Document patient care accurately and timely in the medical record
    • Coordinate care with physicians, nursing staff, and ancillary services
    • Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and compliance initiatives

    Qualifications

    • Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing from an accredited NP/PA program
    • Current Nurse Practitioner/ Physician Assistant certification
    • Active state NP/PA license and prescriptive authority
    • Cardiology experience preferred; training or strong interest in cardiology considered
    • Strong clinical judgment, communication, and organizational skills
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative care team

    Work Environment

    • May include outpatient cardiology clinics, inpatient units, diagnostic labs, and procedural areas
    • Schedule may include weekdays with possible call, evenings, weekends, or holidays depending on practice needs

    Physical Requirements

    • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout clinical settings
    • Manual dexterity to perform examinations and procedures
    • Ability to assist with patient mobility as needed
