The Cardiology Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant provides comprehensive cardiovascular care to patients with acute and chronic heart conditions. Working collaboratively with cardiologists and multidisciplinary healthcare teams, this role focuses on evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and longitudinal management of cardiovascular disease using evidence-based, patient-centered practices.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Evaluate and manage patients with cardiovascular conditions including coronary artery disease, heart failure, arrhythmias, hypertension, valvular heart disease, and lipid disorders
Perform comprehensive histories, physical examinations, and ongoing patient assessments
Develop and implement individualized treatment plans in collaboration with supervising cardiologists
Provide inpatient and/or outpatient cardiology care depending on practice setting
Interpret diagnostic studies such as electrocardiograms, echocardiograms, stress tests, ambulatory monitoring, and laboratory results, consistent with training and privileges
Manage cardiovascular medications and monitor therapeutic response
Participate in care coordination, discharge planning, and transitions of care
Educate patients and families on disease processes, medications, lifestyle modification, and risk-factor reduction
Communicate effectively with cardiologists, nursing staff, and consulting services
Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation in the electronic medical record
Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and outcomes initiatives
Comply with all regulatory, accreditation, and professional standards
Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program
Current NP or PA certification and state licensure
Eligibility for hospital credentialing and privileging
DEA registration or eligibility
Prior experience or training in cardiology or internal medicine preferred
Skills and Competencies
Strong clinical knowledge of cardiovascular disease management

Ability to manage acute and chronic cardiac conditions

Work Environment
Outpatient cardiology clinics, hospital inpatient units, diagnostic testing areas, or a combination of settings
Schedule may include clinic hours, inpatient coverage, weekends, or call depending on practice needs
Physical Requirements
Ability to sit, stand, and move throughout clinical environments
Manual dexterity for examinations and clinical procedures
Visual and auditory acuity sufficient for patient assessment and interpretation of diagnostic data
