Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant

Position Overview

Provide specialized cardiothoracic surgical support services, including assisting in the operating room, performing advanced procedures, and delivering direct patient care in a VA clinical setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in cardiothoracic surgeries (first and second assist)
• Perform endoscopic vein harvesting (radial and saphenous)
• Conduct procedures such as:
  • Central line placement (ultrasound-guided)
  • Chest tube insertion/removal
  • Swan-Ganz catheter placement/removal
  • Cardioversion and pacing wire removal
• Support robotic and bedside surgical procedures
• Document care in electronic health records (EHR)
• Ensure compliance with patient safety, HIPAA, and VA standards

Qualifications

• Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C)
• Current, unrestricted medical license
• BLS & ACLS certifications
• Extensive cardiothoracic experience required, including:
  • 100+ endoscopic vein harvesting procedures
• Strong clinical, surgical, and communication skills

Schedule

• Part-time: 2 days per week
• 6 hours per day
• No on-call or off-hours required
