The role. The Cardiothoracic Stepdown RN provides post-operative and transitional care for cardiothoracic patients in a stepdown setting. This role may require staying past the end of a scheduled shift when late cases are running, and nurses should be prepared to float within an hour to nearby locations as needed, with the closest clinic serving as the primary home base.
