The CMA Cardiac Device Technician works under the supervision of the Clinic Manager. This position performs clinical and technical assessment of patients with permanent pacemakers and implantable cardioverter defibrillators.
Skills and Abilities
Essential Technical/Motor Skills
Verbalizes and demonstrates knowledge of pacemakers and implantable defibrillators devices; pacemakers and implantable defibrillator analysis; trouble-shooting devices; problem, cause, intervention; programming devices with appropriate settings.
Ability to manipulate equipment (finger dexterity) - fine motor skills.
Interpersonal Skills
Displays a friendly, positive attitude and communicates with patients, families, physicians and co-workers in a professional manner.
Ability to communicate in verbally and written.
Ability to explain test procedures and reports to patients, physicians, and other staff members.
Essential Physical Requirements
Must move, kneel, crouch, stoop, reach, stand, push, pull, and lift.
Must follow good body mechanics.
Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (20-30 lbs).
Essential Mental Abilities
Ability to collect thorough information regarding patient''s condition and evaluate effects of care; must be able to visually inspect patient''s condition.
Problem solve, manipulate numbers, adaptability, interpret data, calculate, comprehend, understand, explain, assess, evaluate short term and long term memory.
Essential Sensory Requirements
Communicate articulately to patients, physicians and staff.
Ability to feel patient''s pulse and listen to patients, physicians and staff speaking.
Exposure to Hazards
Needle sticks.
Potential exposure to blood and blood products.
Other Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of the heart's conduction system and indications for pacing and defibrillation devices as well as loop recorders, bi-ventricular devices. Knowledge of modes of pacing and rhythm interpretation; including basic understanding of common arrhythmias.
Ability to evaluate and program pacemakers and implantable cardioverter defibrillator, and understand the concepts of pacing and sensing as it relates to the above devices and protocols.
Assist with any clinical research projects as it relates to the above devices.
Maintains knowledge of pacemaker repository system, reports, letters and documentation. Maintain documentation for device files in electronic pacemaker repository.
Understand the use of and maintain all device clinic equipment.
Coordinates trans telephonic testing.
Triage all pacemakers and defibrillator related telephone calls.
Establish and maintain liaison with pacemaker manufacturers.
Continue educational updates consistent with technology developments
Able to accept a verbal/telephone order from provider and enter orders.
Must be able to function as a Cardiovascular Technician when needed/available.
Other duties as assigned
Be able to work off clinic protocols and enter orders.
Education
H.S. Diploma - Required
Work Experience
2 Years - Cardiology clinical experience with arrhythmia interpretation. - Required
Hospital based course in arrhythmia recognition. - Required
Complete competency in device training from manufacturer or hospital. - Required
Ability to type 40 wpm and input data. - Required
Licenses and Certifications
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) - Required Upon Hire Or
Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) - Required Upon Hire
Basic Life Support (BLS) - Required within 90 Days
Arrhythmia Technologies Institute (ATI) Certification - Required within 1 Year
Travel Requirements
