Cardiovascular & Electrophysiology Specialist IV (RCIS)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Cardiovascular & Electrophysiology Specialist IV (RCIS) to join a high-acuity Cardiac Catheterization and Electrophysiology team. This role provides specialized procedural support in invasive cardiovascular, electrophysiology (EP), peripheral vascular, and pediatric cardiac procedures. The ideal candidate is highly skilled in a fast-paced procedural environment, demonstrates strong clinical judgment, and is committed to delivering exceptional patient care while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

Assignment Details

• Employment Type: Direct Hire

• Schedule: Full-Time (36–40 hours per week)

• Shift Options:

  • Current: 7:30 AM – 6:00 PM (10-hour shifts)

  • Future Schedule: 6:30 AM – 7:00 PM or 7:30 AM – 6:00 PM (12-hour shifts)

• On-Call: Required

Key Responsibilities

Invasive Cardiology & Electrophysiology

• Assist physicians during diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology (EP), peripheral vascular, and pediatric cardiac procedures.

• Perform procedural roles including scrubbing, circulating, and hemodynamic monitoring.

• Prepare patients, equipment, and procedure rooms for invasive procedures.

• Administer medications under physician supervision and according to established protocols.

• Monitor patient status throughout procedures and respond appropriately to changes in clinical condition.

• Document patient care, procedural events, and clinical findings accurately in the medical record.

Electrophysiology Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor EP recording systems during procedures.

• Assist physicians with cardiac mapping, pacing, stimulation studies, and catheter placement.

• Program, test, and evaluate pacemakers, implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs), and other implantable cardiac devices.

• Utilize Pacemaker System Analyzer (PSA) to evaluate lead function during device implantation.

• Reprogram implantable cardiac devices as clinically indicated.

• Assist with device deactivation and reactivation during surgical procedures in accordance with established protocols.

• Support orientation and education of new electrophysiology staff.

Patient Care & Clinical Support

• Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, patients, and interdisciplinary team members.

• Recognize and respond rapidly to patient condition changes during procedures.

• Maintain a safe procedural environment while adhering to infection prevention and radiation safety standards.

• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and evidence-based practice activities.

Leadership & Professional Development

• Serve as a preceptor and clinical resource for team members.

• Participate in departmental education, committees, and governance activities.

• Assist with the development and implementation of departmental policies, procedures, and best practices.

• Maintain required clinical competencies and certifications.

Required Qualifications

Education

• High School Diploma or equivalent.

• Graduation from an accredited program in one of the following:

  • Cardiovascular Technology

  • Cardiopulmonary Technology

  • Radiologic Technology

  • Nursing

  • Related Allied Health discipline

Certification

One of the following certifications is required:

• Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) – CCI

• Registered Cardiovascular Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) – CCI

• Equivalent nationally recognized cardiovascular certification

Additional certifications:

• Current Basic Life Support (BLS)

• Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)

Experience

• Previous experience in Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and/or Electrophysiology Laboratory preferred.

• Experience supporting invasive cardiovascular procedures.

• Ability to perform in high-acuity procedural environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with adult and/or pediatric cardiac catheterization procedures.

• Electrophysiology laboratory experience.

• Experience with pacemaker and ICD implantation/programming.

• Strong knowledge of invasive hemodynamic monitoring.

• Previous experience serving as a mentor or preceptor.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods while wearing 10–20 pounds of radiation protective lead apparel.

• Ability to lift and assist with moving patients and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

• Frequent bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and stooping.

• Manual dexterity and excellent hand-eye coordination.

• Ability to work in environments involving radiation exposure, blood, bodily fluids, and other clinical hazards while following all required safety protocols.

Work Environment

This position is based in a high-volume invasive cardiovascular procedural environment where teamwork, technical expertise, and rapid clinical decision-making are essential. The role involves supporting complex diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures while maintaining the highest standards of patient care, procedural safety, and quality outcomes. Candidates should be comfortable working in a fast-paced setting with rotating procedural schedules and on-call responsibilities.
