Job Description
Under limited supervision, the Cardiovascular Technologist I assists physicians in diagnosing and treating cardiac and peripheral vascular disease in an invasive procedure arena, specializing in the care of patients undergoing basic diagnostic catheterization and interventional procedures. This role functions as a resource to staff.
Job Duties
• Performs scrub duties and related procedures for cardiac interventions, left heart catheterization, and right and left heart catheterization with no assistance. • Performs scrub duties and related procedures for peripheral diagnostics or interventions with minimal assistance. • Ability to scrub gown, glove, and set up back table with necessary equipment. • Records cardiac interventions, left heart catheterization, and left and right heart catheterization hemodynamics with accuracy. • Monitors procedure and documents inventory used and order of events appropriately in MacLabtm event log. • Requires only occasional minimal assistance. • Maintains ECG set up and rhythm monitoring. • Maintains basic hemodynamic set up and waveform monitoring. • Assists in preparation of room with fellow staff members for safe effective care of patient. • Performs required checks on all safety equipment. • Ensures adequate supplies present to perform procedures. • Transports patients alone or accompanied by a fellow staff member.
Required License, Certification, and Registration
• RCIS RCES CEPS or RTRCI certification required within the first 2 years of hire and must be maintained. • If applicable, American Registry of Radiologic Technologist ARRT and South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Act SCRQSA also required. • Current Basic Life Support BLS required either a certification from an American Heart Association AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers or AHA recognized equivalent or an American Red Cross CPRAED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider. • Advanced Cardiac Life Support ACLS obtained within three 3 months of hire and thereafter maintained.
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements
Work Experience 0-6 months Graduation from an accredited Invasive Cardiovascular Technology program or equivalent education and/or experience and RCIS RCES CEPS or RTRCI certification required or CST Certified Surgical Technologist certification experience or Graduation from an accredited school of radiologic technology and one year of radiologic experience. Telemetry and Arterial and Venous Sheath Removal experience preferred. Copy of academic degree or transcript required.
