Job Title: Cardiac Catheterization Technologist
Job Summary:
To prepare patients for invasive procedures, assist the physician during diagnostic catheterization, PTCA, or electrophysiology studies, and rotate through all aspects of the laboratory.
Primary Function:
To prepare patients for invasive procedures, and assist the physician during a diagnostic catheterization, PTCA, or electrophysiology study. Rotates through all aspects of the laboratory.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
• Responsible for providing clinical support for electrophysiology procedures, including Pacemaker and defibrillator implants, EP studies, ablations, and loops recorders. • Responsible for providing clinical support for cardiac interventional procedures, including Diagnostic Catheterization, Balloon Angioplasty, Peripheral Vascular Angioplasty, Rotational and Directional atherectomy, Stent Placement, Cardiac Structural Interventions (TAVR, EVAR, Mitral Clip, and Watchman), as well as electro-physiology procedures. • Performs duties of a scrub assistant during a procedure, including controlling and manipulating guide wires and diagnostic catheters, and maintaining a sterile field. • Responsible for assisting RN in provision of safe and effective patient care. • Ensures proper safety standards are met for compliance with departmental policies, radiation safety standards, and joint commission regulations. • Operates required imaging equipment using established guidelines and imaging protocols. • Implements daily and weekly QA and maintenance procedures on all specified cardiac catheter equipment according to established policies and procedures. • Monitors the patient throughout the interventional procedure. • Monitors and records intracardiac and intravascular pressures. • Anticipates the activities of each existing Electrophysiology and/or Cath lab and keeps the schedule flowing consistently. • Maintains proper customer services with all areas that interact with laboratory. • Keeps a neat and clean work environment. • Instructs students and residents and performs preceptor duties when necessary. • Demonstrates skills and knowledge necessary to provide care appropriate to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, including knowledge of growth and development, the ability to obtain and interpret information to identify patient needs, and to provide the care needed. • Maintains patient confidentiality. • Consistently uses two patient identifiers. • Completes all mandatory education. • Performs other related duties as required.
Schedule:
• Shift: Day Shift 7am-5:30pm M-F • No weekends or holidays.
Education and Experience Requirements:
• Completion of registered X-Ray Technologist or Cardiovascular Technologist program. • Cardiac Catheterization experience preferred. • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
Special Requirements:
• BLS and ACLS within one year of hire. • Scope, purpose, and frequency of contacts: Frequent contact with physicians, nurses, allied health personnel, patients, visitors, both internal and external.
Direction/Supervision of Others:
• Students from Delaware Technical College, Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences, and Thomas Jefferson University.

Education and Experience Requirements:
• Completion of registered X-Ray Technologist or Cardiovascular Technologist program (RCES or RCIS). • Associate or bachelor's degree with training in Cardiovascular technology. • Register Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) preferred. • At least two (2) years' experience required.
Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements:
• Knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the heart. • Knowledge of rhythms, dysrhythmia, and pressures in the chambers of the heart. • Knowledge of policies and procedures, knowledge of the intro-aortic balloon pump. • Knowledge of drug interactions as related to pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. • Knowledge of radiation safety for patients and employees. • Skill in manual dexterity and viewing a computer terminal. • Skill in communicating professionally on any level of contact. • Skill in oral and written communications. • Ability to calculate valve areas. • Ability to maintain an efficient productivity level. • Ability to perform CPR if needed on any individual.
Special Requirements:
• BLSACLS within one year of hire. • Physical demands: Frequent lifting of incapacitated patients, standing and bending for extended periods while wearing a protective lead apron (weighs 20 lbs.). • Working conditions: Limited exposure to radiation, confined spaces, and blood borne pathogens/body fluids. • Hourly Pay Range: $41.28 - $66.05.
