CAREER READINESS PROGRAM TEACHER

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

Responsible for teaching students in a categorical special education classroom. Work with community agencies, as appropriate. Core curriculum is based upon MDE Guidelines.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide instruction and assistance to secondary and post high school age students. • Direct instruction. • Support and consult with community agencies. • Plan and direct learning activities for students according to their academic and behavioral needs. • Work with families and students to plan for post school outcomes. • Assess students to determine interests and match those interests with appropriate community resources. • Plan instruction to facilitate growth and independence in the areas of transition: community, leisure, daily living. • Evaluate student performance using formal and informal assessment tools. • Diagnose specific student needs, address needs in IEP and plan and carryout individualized programs for each student. • Develop and implement classroom structures and behavior programs for students, including positive behavioral interventions and behavior intervention plans. • Consult and coordinate instruction, behavioral management and other appropriate student services with other personnel who serve students with disabilities. • Prepare and maintain lesson plans that are aligned with the e-GLCEs and provide appropriate documentation of student performance. • Plan curriculum and lessons based upon state standards that meet the needs of individual students. • Complete evaluations, assessments and screenings of students in a timely manner. • Meet individual students and program needs. • Establish and maintain appropriate records, reports and procedures including, but not limited to, lesson plans, behavioral data and student progress on IEP goals/objectives. • Provide direction and information to teacher assistant(s). • Travel to meet job requirements. • Conduct parent/teacher conferences. • Participate/coordinate IEPT and other meetings as requested/required. • Use various software packages for communication and documentation purposes. • Maintain regular consistent attendance and punctuality. • Maintain a professional personal appearance. • Adhere to district health and safety procedures. • Adhere to Board Policies. • Maintain confidentiality.

EDUCATION AND/or EXPERIENCE

Must meet Michigan Department of Education requirements for full/temporary approval as a Teacher of Secondary Special Education.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with any Special Education endorsement.

NOTICE OF NON-DISCRIMINATION AND NOTICE OF COMPLAINT/GRIEVANCE PROCEDURE FOR FEDERAL AND STATE LAWS

A. Non-discrimination Notice

B. Complaint/Grievance Procedure Notice

I. Any person believing that the Calhoun Intermediate School District or any of the Districts staff has inadequately applied the principles and/or regulations of non-discrimination laws or district non-discrimination policies may bring forward a complaint, which shall be referred to as a grievance to the districts Civil Rights Coordinator.

II. The person who believes s/he has a valid basis for grievance shall discuss the grievance informally and on a verbal basis with the Districts Civil Rights Coordinator, who shall in turn investigate the complaint and reply with verbal answer to the complainant. S/He may initiate formal procedures according to the following steps:

Step 1: A written statement of the grievance signed by the complainant shall be submitted to the Districts Civil Rights Coordinator within five (5) business days of receipt of answers to the informal complaint. The Coordinator shall further investigate the matters of grievance and reply in writing to the complainant within five (5) business days.

Step 2: If the complainant wishes to appeal the decision of the Districts Civil Rights Coordinator, s/he may submit a signed statement of appeal to the Superintendent of Schools within five (5) business days after receipt of the Coordinators response. The Superintendent shall meet with all parties involved, formulate a conclusion and respond in writing to the complainant within ten (10) business days.

Step 3: If the complainant remains unsatisfied, s/he may appeal through a signed written statement to the Board of Education within five (5) business days of his/her receipt of the Superintendents response in step two. In an attempt to resolve the grievance, the Board of Education shall meet with the concerned parties and their representative within twenty (20) business days of the receipt of such an appeal. A copy of the Boards disposition of the appeal shall be sent to each concerned party within ten (10) business days of this meeting.

The Districts Coordinator, on request, will provide a copy of the Districts grievance procedure and investigate all complaints in accordance with this procedure.
