Job Title Career Service Advisor IDepartment Career ServicesSummary The Career Service Advisor I is responsible for providing externship, job placement guidance, and assistance to graduates of the assigned Dorsey College campus. Responsibilities include coordinating all aspects of the student externship program, identifying eligible students, securing externship sites, monitoring students during their externships, interfacing with employers, and submitting final grades and reports. The role also involves developing relationships with area employers to support externship and job placement opportunities.Benefits Tuition discounts for Dorsey programs (employee, spouse, and dependent).Tuition discount opportunities for select online Lindenwood University degrees for eligible employees.Comprehensive benefits plan: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability insurance, employee assistance program, and 403b retirement plan.Eleven paid holidays: MLK Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving break (Thursday – Friday), Christmas Eve and Christmas Day (as observed), and New Year's Eve and New Year's Day (as observed).Essential Functions Conduct externship meetings with students prior to externship.Identify eligible students for externship in each module.Secure and notify students of externship sites in writing.Track student progress, obtain attendance reports, and conduct site visits each module.Compute final grades, prepare summary reports, and ensure completion of required paperwork.Provide counseling on student issues and, when necessary, refer to Associate Director or Managing Director.Coordinate and conduct on‑site meetings to explain the Career Services process.Assist students with resume writing and cover letters, maintaining copies for employer use.Conduct mock interviews and exit interviews with each student.Communicate professionally with students, graduates, and employers regarding job search activities.Contact students in person at least weekly and document contacts in CampusVue.Obtain supporting documentation when students waive Career Services assistance.Meet with eligible graduating students to review resumes, clarify career goals, and establish job search plans.Actively contact employers to develop relationships and identify job and externship openings.Select and refer appropriately qualified students to available job orders promptly.Respond to employer job order specifications and record job orders in CampusVue accurately.Follow up with employers on all job orders and facilitate job interviews.Participate in local job fairs, chamber of commerce meetings, and industry events to promote Dorsey graduates and Career Services.Coordinate advisory meetings and collect Employment Program Verification Forms from employers.Attend on‑campus job fairs.Knowledge – Skills – Abilities Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with active listening.Reliable, highly motivated, and positive attitude.Strong ability to multitask amid frequent interruptions.Ability to work individually and cooperatively as part of a team.Proficiency with basic office equipment, computers, and applications.Working knowledge of CampusVue software preferred.Ability to travel within 10 miles to assigned locations.Minimum Qualifications Associate's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience; Bachelor's degree preferred.Previous experience in job development or placement preferred.Working / Physical Demands Evening or weekend hours may be required. The position involves long periods of sitting and extensive use of office equipment including computer, copier, printer, fax, telephone, and postage meter. Requires autonomous work and initiative. Local travel to campuses or events within the community may be necessary.
