Caregiver

The Homemaker/Caregiver works under the supervision of a licensed professional and performs tasks that contribute to clients' comfort and safety in the home. The Homemaker/Caregiver provides emotional support, socialization, quiet time, assistance with daily living activities including grooming, and can assist with meal preparation and light housekeeping.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Be at least eighteen (18) years of age.

1. Demonstrate ability to read, write, follow a written Plan of Care and document tasks performed.

1. Be self-directed and work with minimal supervision.

1. Demonstrate Dependability, tact, patience and the ability to follow instructions.

1. Possess good interpersonal communication skills.

1. Have experience in cooking, cleaning, laundry and shopping.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

1. Function within the limitations of the individual assignment and maintain strict confidentiality.

1. Attend to client's request promptly.

1. Provide companionship, socialization and housekeeping services.

1. Assist with meal planning, assist with grooming as needed, purchase of food and food preparation.

1. Assist client to live in a clean, safe environment:

1. Cleaning bathrooms and kitchen, including refrigerator and stove
2. Personal errands
3. Laundry
4. Vacuuming and dusting
5. Scrubbing floors
6. Changing bed linens

1. Know and follow infection control policies, including proper hand washing techniques.

1. Maintain appropriate communication with the Nursing Supervisor (written and verbal) and with all members of the interdisciplinary team.

1. Document cares given and pertinent observations accurately as directed by the care plan/Nursing Supervisor.

1. Treat clients and families with respect and maintain confidentiality.

1. Accept and fulfill assignments with the Agency and exercise judgment in accepting assignments.

1. Attend required in-service programs per Agency policy.
