Position Description
The City of Seattle is seeking to hire two journey-level skilled carpenters to perform carpentry work in the construction, maintenance, alteration, and repair of buildings, building equipment, and facilities.
In this role you'll have the opportunity to perform a broad scope of facility maintenance work, including maintenance. repair, alteration and construction. These positions require work under the general direction of the Carpenter Crew Chief and within a team of 30+ members of skilled trades and administrative professionals.

FAS is often the publics first interaction with the City of Seattle, operating as a customer-focused front door that assists with everything from paying utilities or reporting a pothole to requesting public information or even adopting a new pet.

Minimum Qualifications:
(Or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class.)
Candidates may be most successful in this role if they have a broad scope of journey-level maintenance carpentry and related trades knowledge and experience including locksmith experience, are able to diagnose issues and solve problems and have strong mechanical skills. This skill level is typically gained through completion of apprenticeship program and at least three years of journey level experience.
Preferred qualifications include: ten (10) years of recent experience as a journey level Carpenter in maintenance or commercial construction. We hope that you have finish carpentry and cabinet making skills. You know how to use a smartphone for communication, email, texting, photos, Microsoft Teams, google maps, and for research. You are comfortable using a computer for email and for looking things up.

This position is classified as a Classified Civil Service, regular, full-time. It is Civil Service represented, FLSA non-exempt and is eligible for overtime. The full salary range for this position is $51.12 - $51.12 per hour.

Background Check
Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Background Check
This position requires successfully passing a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) background check. Carpenters in this role may have access to secure City facilities, restricted operational areas, or information systems connected to public safety functions. CJIS clearance ensures that employees who work in or around these sensitive environments meet federal and local security standards. Candidates must complete fingerprinting and all required CJIS screening before hire.

Driving Record: A current, "FULL" driving abstract from the Department of Licensing is required to be submitted upon offer of employment. Candidates with driving history that does not meet our current safety standards will be disqualified from consideration.
