Job Summary:
Rollins College is currently seeking a service-oriented Carpenter Helper to join their Maintenance team. The Carpenter Helper has the responsibility of performing basic and routine maintenance, service and repair of college facilities, equipment and systems.
Essential Job Functions
Performs miscellaneous painting and carpentry work including drywall patching, furniture repair, staging and riser setup/tear-down, and installation & repair of acoustical ceilings.
Completes preventative maintenance of roofing systems by clearing debris from roofs, gutters, balconies, and exterior stone and facades on a regular basis.
Assists the lead carpenter to manage shop safety, organization, and cleanliness.
Operates shop tools including band saw, table saw, miter saw, sanders, drills and other common power tools.
Performs periodic maintenance of pool equipment including DE filters, pump systems, clearing and cleaning debris, brushing and vacuuming, and other related tasks.
Maintains and understands the operation of personal tools required to perform the work.
Performs hand excavation and backfill for installation of signage, underground conduit, plumbing, and lighting.
Assists other maintenance teams as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Knowledge of tools, techniques and procedures of carpentry repairs and installation, as well as a broad understanding of skilled trades such as electrical, plumbing and HVAC.
Understanding and compliance with OSHA workplace safety standards.
Ability to perform strenuous work, including lifting heavy objects, and the ability to stand or stoop for prolonged periods of time.
Ability to work outdoors in different weather conditions, such as summer heat, when necessary to complete tasks.
Have competent technology skills to learn and use our work ticket system, TDX, to complete tasks and preventative maintenance as assigned, manage workload, and record completion logs.
Ability to interpret and follow verbal and written instructions and diagrams.
Ability to work under supervision or independently.
Work Schedule:
The Carpenter Helper is scheduled to work 7.5 hours/day, 37.5 hours per week. Schedules will be discussed during the interview process. Flexible schedule or overtime, including evenings or weekends, may be required to meet business needs.
As a condition of employment in this position, the incumbent will be subject to call in outside of regular hours in order to respond to emergencies, including the preparation and maintenance of College facilities, grounds, systems and services during inclement weather crises. Also, this staff member will be required to carry the Maintenance on-call phone for one-week intervals 1-3 times during the year, including working a corresponding Saturday shift.
