Job Description

At Hilo Benioff Medical Center in Hilo, this role plays a vital part in maintaining a safe, functional, and healing environment for patients, staff, and the community. As a Carpenter, you’ll contribute directly to the upkeep and improvement of hospital facilities through skilled craftsmanship and hands-on problem solving.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform journeyman-level carpentry work, including construction, renovation, and repair of structures such as walls, floors, ceilings, roofs, windows, and doors
  • Build and install wooden structures and fixtures from sketches, blueprints, and plans
  • Conduct routine inspections of buildings and complete necessary maintenance and repairs
  • Construct and assemble concrete forms, estimate materials, and assist with pouring and finishing concrete work
  • Operate and maintain a variety of carpentry tools and equipment, including power saws, sanders, and drill presses
  • Erect scaffolding and complete roofing work using shingles, roofing paper, or other materials


Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED preferred. Completion of an approved carpentry apprenticeship program is preferred.
  • Experience: Four (4) years of experience performing a variety of rough and finished carpentry work, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Knowledge & Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of carpentry methods, materials, tools, and building codes
    • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and technical drawings
    • Skilled in estimating labor and material needs
    • Ability to work independently and provide guidance to helpers when needed

* Rates listed for paid holidays, vacation and sick days are for 1.0 Full Time Equivalent (FTE) positions assigned to 8 hour shifts. Accruals for these benefits are otherwise prorated based on FTE.

Pre-Employment Health Requirements

Offers of employment will be contingent on successfully passing a pre-employment examination, which includes a drug screen and other regulatory medical requirements such as, but not limited to, a tuberculosis (TB) screen.  The cost for drug screening and blood draw for QuantiFERON and Titers, shall be borne by the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.

Shift Details

Must be available to work shifts, weekends and holidays as necessary based on hospital operations. Services are provided 24/7.
