Performance competencies & responsibilities:
Technical skills
- Measures, marks, and cut materials into specified measurements, using required carpentry tools with minimal supervision
- Reads all measurements quickly and accurately, does multi‑step math, and checks others' measurements to make sure work is precise
- Assembles framing components accurately, including headers, trimmers, soffits and blocking
- Uses hand tools and power tools confidently, demonstrating improved speed and accuracy
- Organizes materials, tools, and work areas proactively to support production flow
- Performs routine tool and equipment maintenance and identifies issues before they cause delays
- Ability to select appropriate hand tools (hammers, levels, squares, etc.) and power tools (saws, drills, etc.) for specified tasks
- Ability to operate equipment (lifts, skid steers, etc.) and small equipment productively
- Understand construction materials, their uses and familiarity with building terminology
Advanced Framing
- Proficient at reading construction drawings and blueprints to understand Scope of Work (SOW) requirements
- Expert of building codes and Construction Quality Management (CQM) standards
- Performs concrete formwork tasks independently
- Expert knowledge of standard framing methods and sequencing
- Leads framing tasks independently and leads complex carpentry
- Expert at installing framing components, drywall, doors/frames, ceilings, hardware, and cabinets with supervision, using materials such as wood, steel, metal, and composites
- Expert at building standard wall, floor, and roof framing using correct spacing, cuts, and fastening techniques
- Works efficiently and safely on ladders, scaffolds, and elevated surfaces
Teamwork & communication
- Work collaboratively with FCC team members and Subcontractors with differing work/personality styles
- Demonstrate independence and self-sufficiency by learning new methods, asking informed questions and following direction without reminders
- Lead by example in maintaining a positive, professional attitude and positive team culture
- Proactively identify and communicate jobsite needs, material shortages, safety concerns, and other issues to the supervisor
- Demonstrate strong jobsite and situational awareness through recognizing hazards, anticipating needs, and proactively communicating concerns
Craft excellence
- Setting the daily plan, assigning tasks, and making sure each crew member understands the scope and expectations
- Manages time effectively to stay on pace, adjusting the plan as needed to keep work on schedule with weekly production expectations
- Identifies complex problems in tasks or materials and brings forward practical solutions
- Training and mentoring less‑experienced carpenters, demonstrating proper techniques, and correcting mistakes in real time
- Communicating with the superintendent about progress, issues, manpower needs, and upcoming work
Health & Safety expertise
- Maintain a clean, organized, and debris free work area throughout the day
- Keep tools and equipment clean and stored properly at the end of each shift
- Consistently wear and use required PPE correctly on every job site
- Monitor and ensure on-site safety compliance, cleanliness, and job site organization
- Adhere to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards
- Complete OSHA 10 Certification
- Understand and maintain Veteran's Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) guidelines
- Understand and maintain Interim Life Safety Measures (ILSM)
