    Job Description

    The Carpenter Senior reports to the Facilities Assistant Director at Phoenix College and plays a key role in maintaining and enhancing campus facilities through skilled, journey-level carpentry work. This position supports a wide range of construction, repair, and preventative maintenance activities, as well as remodeling and new construction projects, all while ensuring compliance with safety standards and building codes. Serving as a lead resource, the Carpenter interprets blueprints, coordinates project work, and provides guidance to ensure quality and efficiency.

    • Journey level card/license required
    • Possession of a valid State of Arizona Driver License (Class D) may be required for some assignments
    • May require licenses or certifications associated with assignment

    Required licenses and certifications must be maintained for the duration of employment within the classification. Licenses and certifications may be subject to renewal and/or require Continuing Education Units (CEUs) or training by the State or issuing authority.

    Essential Functions

    40% - Performs journey-level carpentry work, including rough, finish, and specialized projects using wood and other materials. Performs preventative maintenance and general repairs on facilities and structures. Follows all safety procedures, building codes, and regulations, including proper use of tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE). Operates, maintains, and ensures proper care of carpentry tools and equipment.

    20% - Provides lead oversight of carpentry work, including construction, alteration, maintenance, and repair of structures and components. Reads and interprets blueprints, drawings, and specifications to plan and complete assigned projects. Assigns and monitors the work of others.

    15% - Performs remodeling and new construction in assigned areas, including reconfiguring or removing walls and doorways, and installing or repairing drywall and suspended ceilings.

    15% - Performs locksmithing duties, including key creation and tracking in Keystone.

    10% - Performs other duties as assigned.
