    Hiring Range: $76,809 - $94,369 ($5,000 sign-on bonus)

    Job Description:

    The Department of Juvenile Justice is committed to excellence in public safety by providing effective interventions that improve the lives of youth and strengthen families and communities across the Commonwealth.

    DJJ's Division of Education is seeking a qualified Carpentry Instructor to provide high-quality, competency-based instruction that supports the individual learning needs of students and aligns with the Commonwealth's educational standards, statutes, and program certification requirements. The instructor will design and deliver engaging, research-based instruction, foster a safe, respectful, and student-centered learning environment, and use student data to inform instruction, monitor progress, and promote academic success

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education:

    Must possess a high school diploma or a Virginia Board of Education-approved high school equivalency credential. Postsecondary coursework or apprenticeship training in carpentry from an accredited college, technical school, or recognized training program is preferred.

    Licensure/Experience:

    Must meet one of the following qualifications:


    (1) Possess or be eligible for a Virginia Teaching License or Virginia Technical Professional License; or
    (2) Have at least two years of successful full-time (or equivalent) occupational experience within the past five years in carpentry.

    NCCER Instructor Certification or experience delivering NCCER Carpentry curriculum preferred.

    Additional Considerations

    Experience as a Carpentry Instructor in a secondary setting preferred; Experience teaching at-risk youth preferred; Current OSHA Construction Trainer Card preferred.

    Applicants interested in this position should submit a copy of their Virginia teaching license (if currently licensed), college transcripts (if applicable), industry certifications or licenses (if applicable), and documentation of relevant occupational experience.

    Documentation of occupational experience must include evidence in the area of residential carpentry in the form of reference letters from any of the following: building officials, building inspectors, current or former employers, contractors, engineers, architects, or current past clients attesting to the candidate’s work in the trade.

    Applicants seeking a provisional license or Virginia Technical Professional License should be aware that licensure requirements are based on Virginia Department of Education regulations.

    Candidates may be required to complete applicable assessments, coursework, or other licensure requirements based on their qualifications and the pathway for which they are eligible.
