The Position
Teach high school students the Construction Carpentry state curriculum for the 2026-2027 school year.

Provide instruction in all aspects of construction with a heavy emphasis on carpentry to prepare students for entry-level employment in the construction industry or to continue at the post-secondary level. Create a valid standards/skills-based curriculum that leads to relevant industry certifications. Assist students in enhancing their professional skills by integrating employability skills such as working with others, good attendance, a strong work ethic, and a positive attitude. Establish relationships with local employers in the construction industry to maintain a strong program Advisory Board and secure work-based learning opportunities for the construction pathway students.
Job Requirements
Candidates must possess a Technology Education 5-12 teaching license or be eligible for an Indiana Workplace Specialist Building Trades 5-12 license based on 3-5 years of related work experience in the construction industry, with an emphasis in carpentry preferred.
Work Schedule
This is a full-time teaching position, 185 days, full benefits, and TRF retirement.
It follows the Pike school calendar. The teachers contract hours are approximately Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
NOTE: Employment is year-to-year and based on having sufficient enrollment.
Job Responsibilities
Create a standards skill-based curriculum that leads to relevant NCCER certifications.
Ability to develop rapport and demonstrate professionalism with high school students, parents, staff, and community partners.
Form and work with an advisory committee for the Construction program to maintain updated equipment, curriculum, and industry-specific partnerships.
Flexibility and the ability to address situations as they arise.
Observe, evaluate, and maintain accurate student performance records by grading class work, assignments, projects, and tests, and keeping them electronically updated.
Ability to maintain a safe, orderly classroom and shop environment to retain students and develop their content knowledge in carpentry successfully.
Collaborate with our work-based learning coordinator to develop opportunities for students, such as job shadowing, on-site builds, and internships.
Work with school administration and local stakeholders to ensure successful student outcomes.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Applicant must possess strong construction industry knowledge, and experience with on-site builds is preferred.
Technology skills are required to use district software systems such as Skyward, ParentSquare, and Canvas.
Ability to maintain a calm demeanor when communicating to work effectively with young people.
Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work.
Ability to engage in self-evaluation concerning performance and professional growth.
Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the CTE Director.
