    Job Description

    The principal role of the CASAS Student Assistant is to perform excellent customer service within CASAS by answering phone calls, checking in guests for appointments, greeting and assisting visitors and facilitating a clean environment in the lobby area.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

    Help CASAS staff manage the intake of guests in the CASAS lobby. Duties may include but are not limited to:

    • Answering phones
    • Communicating with faculty and staff when their appointments have arrived
    • Scheduling appointments
    • Answering questions about CASAS and other university services
    • Greeting and directing students and guests
    • Set up and take down equipment in the lobby
    • Professionally represent CASAS in all interactions
    • Work effectively as a team member to foster Liberty’s mission
    • Attend all required shifts and meetings
    • Follow standard operating procedures
    • Complete special projects as assigned by supervisor

    QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Current Liberty University student in good standing with the University

    • Able to work between 12-18 hours a week (between the hours of 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday)

    • Experience with Microsoft Office and ability to learn other systems and tools
    • Displays an attitude of courtesy, respect, and tact when dealing with others
    • Able to multi-task and function in a service environment
    • Able to problem solve and exercise good judgement
    • Strong customer service and communication skills
    • Eligible for Federal Work Study

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Familiar with University offices, departments, and resources
    • Experience in an office setting and customer service

    Communication and Comprehension

    • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to convey clear, well articulated information.

    • Ability to understand, speak, and write English in order to convey messages and correspond in an articulate and professional manner.

    • Possesses public communication skills that allow professional representation of Liberty University to a variety of business and community customers and associates.
    • Strong organizational skills.

    Problem Solving

    • Intuitively able to reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment in order to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature.

    Physical and Sensory Abilities

    • Occasionally required to travel to local and campus locations.
    • Frequently required to sit for extended periods to perform deskwork or type on a keyboard. 
    • Regularly required to hear and speak in order to effectively communicate orally.
    • Occasionally required to stand, walk, and climb stairs to move about the building.
    • Handle materials, reach overhead, kneel or stoop in order to conduct business.
    • Regularly lift 10 or fewer pounds.


    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Work Environment

    The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is a climate-controlled office setting.  It is well lit and the noise level is moderate.

    Driving Requirements

    If the employee is required to travel in performing the duties and responsibilities of the position, the use of one's personal vehicle (or LU vehicles) may be required for travel. Proof of a valid driver's license, an acceptable DMV record, LU Driving Approval, and liability insurance is required when driving in the performance of the employee's position.

    Student employees are paid at least the current Virginia minimum wage per hour. Pay may vary by position and department based on job responsibilities, required skills, available funding, and market conditions.
