Position Summary
The Cashier is responsible for processing real estate and mobile home tax payments received in person, by mail, and through online payment systems. This position performs daily cash handling, payment processing, account balancing, and customer service functions while ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance with county procedures. The Cashier also provides clerical support to the Treasurer"s Office and assists with departmental operations during peak tax collection periods.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Receive, process, and post real estate and mobile home tax payments using the DEVNET system.
- Balance daily cash drawers and reconcile receipts, checks, and cash transactions.
- Prepare and verify daily bank deposits and related documentation.
- Process and prepare refund transactions as required.
- Coordinate secure bank deposit transportation.
- Operate the direct deposit image scanner and other payment-processing equipment.
- Answer telephone inquiries and provide courteous, professional customer service to taxpayers.
- Provide clerical and administrative support to the Treasurer and department staff.
- Assist with the preparation of the Senior Deferral Program.
- Coordinate workflow and provide support to seasonal cashier staff.
- Assist with processing online payments during high-volume collection periods.
- Support office operations by performing additional duties as assigned by the Treasurer or Chief Deputy Treasurer.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify and correct discrepancies quickly.
- Ability to accurately handle cash and financial transactions.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficiency with basic computer applications, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines.
- High level of integrity, dependability, and trustworthiness when handling confidential information and monetary transactions.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Spanish helpful, but not required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods, particularly during peak tax collection cycles (up to 6-7 hours per day).
- Ability to perform repetitive computer and data-entry tasks.
- Frequent use of computer screens, which may result in occasional eye and neck strain.
