Hicks Nurseries, the premier retail and wholesale garden center on Long Island, is looking for Cashiers for our busy Fall season! Afternoon shifts from 1p to 6p. Weekday and Weekend availability.

Cashiers are responsible for handling customer checkouts, maintaining cash security, and delivering excellent customer service. This position requires attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to stay calm and efficient in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Customer Checkout

• Process customer transactions accurately and efficiently following established procedures.
• Greet and thank customers at the beginning and end of each transaction and ensure customer satisfaction.
• Offer customers the opportunity to participate in the Gardener's Advantage program.

Cash Handling & Security

• Maintain the security of the cash drawer at all times.
• Follow all cash handling, register, and computer protocols.

Workstation & Front End Maintenance

• Keep the cashier station clean, tidy, and organized.

• Assist in maintaining a clean and organized Front End area.

• Comfortable handling cash and processing transactions

• Basic computer skills and familiarity with PC systems

• Comfortable using electronic equipment such as cash registers and scanners

• Strong communication and customer service skills

• Attention to detail and basic math skills

• Ability to communicate effectively in English (reading, speaking, and writing)

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous retail cashiering experience
• High school diploma or equivalent

Work Requirements

• Continuous physical activity including standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting, and grasping
• Ability to lift 10 lbs regularly and up to 50 lbs occasionally
• Fine motor skills including keyboarding, mouse use, and writing

Work Environment

• Fast-paced, team-oriented setting
• Greenhouse-based location with fans and cooling devices (no air conditioning)
• Temperatures during warm-weather seasons may exceed 90°F

Additionally, we are Long Island's largest Christmas store selling fresh trees, wreaths, roping, and centerpieces; artificial trees and greens; indoor and outdoor lights and lawn décor; ornaments and collectibles of all types; and much more!
