Ladgov Corporation is seeking an experienced Catholic Mass Music Director to provide musical leadership and direction for Catholic worship services at Keesler Air Force Base.
The Music Director will oversee instrumental and vocal music for Catholic Masses, rehearsals, and authorized special services while coordinating closely with the Catholic Chaplain, musicians, volunteers, and chapel staff.
Work Schedule
The current Catholic Mass is scheduled for Sundays at 10:30 a.m. Central Time.
The Music Director will normally provide:
One rehearsal per week.
One Sunday Mass per week.
Additional authorized rehearsals, holy day services, and special programs as required.
Rehearsals must normally be at least one hour, and the Music Director must arrive at least 30 minutes before rehearsals and worship services.
Qualifications
Minimum two years of experience as a musician and vocalist supporting Roman Catholic worship.
Experience as a pianist/organist or acoustic guitarist.
Experience directing worship and music services in a Roman Catholic church or chapel.
Recent experience within the past five years is preferred.
Traditional Catholic worship-service experience is preferred.
Minimum bachelor's degree in a ministry-related field.
Familiarity with the teachings, traditions, and religious practices of the Roman Catholic Church.
Active membership or attendance at a Catholic church or chapel.
Ability to provide a letter of endorsement from a current Catholic pastor or chaplain.
Advanced familiarity with multiple musical genres.
Ability to read sheet music and/or demonstrate improvisational skills.
Ability to successfully complete an audition and interview.
Strong spoken and written English communication skills.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to work professionally within the pluralistic environment of the Air Force Chaplain Corps.
Primary Duties
Direct and oversee instrumental and accompaniment music for Catholic worship services.
Provide musical direction for Catholic hymns, service music, congregational singing, and choral selections.
Coordinate music selections with the Catholic Chaplain and supporting musicians.
Prepare and distribute musical selections at least two weeks before the applicable service.
Coordinate musicians, vocalists, volunteers, and required musical resources.
Support rehearsals, Sunday Masses, holy days, and authorized special programs.
Read and perform appropriate Catholic liturgical music.
Ensure compliance with applicable music copyright and licensing requirements.
Coordinate setup and teardown of musical instruments, microphones, stands, cables, and related equipment.
Maintain accountability for chapel facilities and Government-provided equipment used during services.
