Responsibilities
Job Summary
This position is responsible for performing non-destructive inspection of aircraft, engines, support equipment, components, and accessories, in accordance with applicable Navy instructions, manufacturer's manuals, and company procedures. The role supports depot-level maintenance and requires close coordination with supervision, quality control, and other shops.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Non-destructively inspect aircraft, engines, support equipment, components, and accessories in accordance with Maintenance Instruction Manuals (MIMs), Illustrated Parts Breakdowns (IPBs), Technical Directives (TDs), Maintenance Requirements Cards (MRCs), Navy instructions, manufacturer's manuals, schematics, company instructions, and other approved data.
- Maintain efficiency logs and records in accordance with COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2 Series.
- Coordinate with supervision and quality control to resolve questions concerning serviceability and/or repair procedures.
- Assist with ordering parts, tools, materials, and equipment as required.
- Document work accomplished on Maintenance Action Forms (MAF) or work orders in the OOMA System.
- Apply thorough knowledge of corrosion detection and review.
- Perform corrosion control cleaning, prevention, and treatment as required.
- Maintain cleanliness of the work center and assigned work areas.
- Perform preventative maintenance on assigned shop and support equipment.
- Adhere to all applicable Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention rules and regulations, including participation in FOD walk-downs when directed.
- Adhere to the company tool control program.
- Comply with the established hazardous material/waste program and applicable Local, State, and Federal Environmental Protection Agency regulations.
- Comply with established general and industrial safety rules and regulations applicable to the contract, facilities, and job assignment.
- Perform simple computer inputs and extractions as required.
- Perform maintenance in support of Depot-level requirements.
- Perform off-site services on assigned detachments as required.
- Work with other shops as needed to meet their requirements.
Qualifications
Qualification Standards
- Minimum of three (3) years of recent aircraft and component non-destructive inspection experience within the last five (5) years, in inspection techniques such as eddy current, fluorescent penetrant, magnetic particle, and ultrasound.
- At minimum, must meet NAS 410 Level II certification requirements.
- Working knowledge of aircraft, engine, and aviation-related support equipment.
- Familiarity with COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2 Series and other applicable Navy instructions, Maintenance Instruction Manuals (MIMs), Illustrated Parts Breakdowns (IPBs), manufacturer's manuals, company instructions, and Quality Management Systems as defined by ISO Standards.
- Working knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and applicable safety precautions.
- Knowledge of proper handling and disposal of hazardous material/waste.
- Must be able to read, speak, write legibly, and understand the English language.
- Must possess a valid state operator's license and be able to pass Government licensing requirements.
- May be required to become Aircraft and Support Equipment Wheel and Tire qualified and certified.
- This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) CAC (Commons Access Card)

- Original NDI certification documentation.
- Total inspection hours performed for each method.
- Any other applicable certifications for methods used.
- NDI Level II or greater
- Formal or specialized training / equivalent
- Valid state driver's license

- Hazardous Waste Communications Training
- FOD and TCP Awareness Training
- COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2 Program Awareness
- ISO 9001-2000 Program Awareness
- NALCOMIS Training
- Ground Support Operator Certification
- Tire and Wheel Certification
- Operational Risk Management (ORM) Training
- Collateral Duty Inspector certification (may be required)
Education
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
Physical Demands
This role is typically performed in a hangar and shop environment and requires physical movements and postures associated with bending, stooping, and climbing ladders. May require lifting objects not normally exceeding 50 pounds. Special vision abilities required include close vision, peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus.
Work Environment
Work conditions may range from environments with little or no physical discomfort to environments involving inclement weather and temperature changes. May require work in areas with high noise hazards, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and exposure to electrical shock hazards.
