Cdl-A Heavy Equipment Operator / Laborer - Albany, NY

RJ Corman Railroad Services is currently seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team in Albany, NY.

Responsibilities:

• Transport, operate, and service heavy equipment used in clearing railroad derailments.
• Handle heavy steel chains, blocks, steel cables, and other recovery devices.
• Practice safe work habits and ensure proper PPE is used.
• Safely drive, operate, and maintain CDL-A vehicles and equipment.
• Perform maintenance, cleaning, and setup of equipment.
• Use small and large tools, including cutting torches and welding equipment.
• Perform manual labor such as digging, hammering, and other physical tasks.
• Follow DOT regulations, permits, and driving requirements.
• Communicate with team members and supervisors throughout projects.
• Complete other assigned duties as needed.

Specialized or Technical Knowledge, or Education and Experience:

• Valid CDL-A driver's license required.

• Valid DOT Medical Card required.

• Knowledge of DOT regulations and transportation compliance.

• Ability to safely operate heavy equipment such as:

• Sideboom

• Track Loader

• Excavator

• Vac Truck

• Grapple Truck

• Experience or willingness to learn equipment maintenance, welding, and cutting torch operations.

• Ability to work on-call 24/7 and travel frequently to job sites.

• Must pass a background check, drug screen, and physical capacity test.

• On-the-job training provided.

Physical Requirements:

• Lift up to 100 pounds maximum.
• Frequently lift and/or carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Perform physically demanding tasks such as digging, hammering, and material handling.
• Work comfortably at heights exceeding 25 feet on railroad cars and bridges.
• Ability to work over water or in water.
• Pass a physical capacity test.

Environmental Requirements:

• Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.

• Available for frequent travel to job sites.

• Must be able to respond to on-call assignments 24/7.

• Comfortable working in railroad environments, including:

• Elevated locations

• Bridges

• Areas over or in water

• Active derailment recovery sites

• Must live within 45 minutes of the R.J. Corman shop.

• Enjoy working outdoors.
