Position Overview
Client is seeking Jacksonville-based CDL-A drivers for over-the-road opportunities across the continental United States. This position offers experience-based pay, flexible home time, newer equipment, and opportunities to increase earnings through performance bonuses and driver training.
Responsibilities
- Safely transport freight across all 48 states, primarily east of I-35.
- Complete drop-and-hook and live-unload assignments.
- Conduct vehicle inspections and maintain accurate logs and delivery documentation.
- Communicate with dispatch and customers to support timely deliveries.
- Follow company safety standards and applicable transportation requirements.
Qualifications
- Valid Class A commercial driver’s license.
- Ability to meet company hiring and driver qualification requirements.
- Commitment to safe driving, dependable service, and professional communication.
- Availability for interstate OTR assignments.
Pay and Additional Compensation
- Experience-based mileage pay.
- Top 20% of Jacksonville Terminal OTR drivers average $1,525+ weekly. This represents top-driver earnings, not guaranteed average pay.
- Detention: $12.50 per hour after two hours, or higher where required by law.
- Layover/breakdown: $100 per day, or higher where required by law.
- Drive to Thrive Bonus: Earn up to 3 additional cents per mile based on safety, mileage, and productivity. Eligibility begins the first full month after hire; drivers must be active OTR company drivers at payout.
$5,000 Sign-On Bonus
- $2,500 after six months.
- $2,500 after 12 months.
Drivers must be active company drivers on each payout date. Performance bonuses may be modified or discontinued with appropriate notice. Employment remains at-will.
Home Time and Routes
- Flexible home time based on driver needs.
- A schedule of 12 days out and two days home is recommended to maximize earnings.
- No forced dispatch into New York City or its five boroughs.
- Dispatch considers available freight, safety, and earning opportunities.
Freight and Mileage
- 100% no-touch freight.
- Approximately 50–60% drop-and-hook and 40–50% live unload.
- Average mileage: approximately 2,000 miles weekly.
- Top 30% of drivers run approximately 2,300–3,000+ miles weekly.
- Average haul length: approximately 400 miles.
Mileage and earnings vary by assignments and productivity.
Equipment
2021 or newer Freightliner Cascadia and Kenworth tractors.
Driver Trainer Opportunity
Qualified drivers may increase their earnings by becoming trainers. Compensation includes:
- Guaranteed $250 weekly while training.
- An additional $0.05 per mile on miles over 1,875 per week.
- Up to $400 Safe Student Bonus per student upgrade.
- Potential to earn $20,000+ more annually, depending on training activity and eligibility.
Trainer qualifications include one year of OTR experience, at least 30 days of employment with U.S. Xpress, and a safe driving record.
Support and Paid Vacation
- 24/7 operations support.
- One week of paid vacation after one year.
- Two weeks after three years.
- Three weeks after seven years.
- Four weeks after 15 years.
