Job Description

Job Title: PERMANENT CDL Driver – Heavy Equipment Hauling (Class A & Class B Openings): $28-38/hr.

Direct Hire - Job Description:

This role supports a new division focused on wrecking and heavy equipment operations by safely transporting trucks and machinery to and from job sites. You primarily drive equipment between the shop and project locations, haul wrecking trucks and related machinery, and coordinate on-site handoffs with field crews. The position involves operating 18‑wheelers with low-boy trailers or smaller trucks with trailers, depending on license class, and occasionally assisting with equipment handling at job sites.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate commercial vehicles to transport wrecking trucks and heavy equipment to and from job sites.
  • Drive 18‑wheelers with low-boy trailers carrying loads in the 80,000–100,000 pound range for the Class A opening.
  • Operate smaller trucks (e.g., Ford 2500 size) with trailers to deliver skid steers, goosenecks, flatbeds, enclosed tool trailers, and other smaller equipment for the Class B opening.
  • Meet on-site crews of 2–3 team members at job locations to coordinate unloading of equipment from the truck.
  • Return the 18‑wheeler or truck to the shop after equipment is unloaded and, when needed, switch into another truck to transport additional equipment.
  • Assist outside the truck as needed, including helping with equipment positioning, basic site support, and safe loading/unloading procedures.
  • Handle large hauler setups for excavators, trailers, U‑bottom trailers, and other heavy construction equipment, where applicable.
  • Follow all safety regulations and company procedures related to heavy equipment hauling and wrecking operations.
  • Maintain accurate logs and documentation related to routes, loads, and hours, in compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Work consistently 55–60 hours per week, including extended days as required by project schedules.
  • Travel regularly for at least the first year, primarily within the Austin area, with additional assignments in San Antonio and Houston.
  • Communicate clearly with dispatch, shop personnel, and on-site teams to ensure efficient scheduling and equipment delivery.
  • Inspect vehicles and trailers before and after trips to identify and report any mechanical issues or safety concerns.

Essential Skills

  • Valid Class A or Class B CDL license, with one opening requiring Class A and one opening requiring Class B.
  • Proven experience operating 18‑wheelers and large haulers for heavy equipment such as excavators, trailers, and U‑bottom trailers (for the Class A role).
  • Demonstrated experience hauling loads in the 80,000–100,000 pound range with semi trucks and low-boy trailers.
  • Experience driving smaller trucks (e.g., Ford 2500 size) while pulling trailers for skid steers, goosenecks, flatbeds, enclosed tool trailers, and similar equipment (for the Class B role).
  • Experience in construction or heavy equipment operations, including familiarity with wrecking or demolition environments.
  • Ability and willingness to consistently work 55–60 hours per week.
  • Ability to travel regularly for at least the first year, with frequent trips to Austin, San Antonio, and Houston.
  • Strong English communication skills; bilingual abilities are preferred.
  • Capability to safely operate and maneuver heavy equipment and wrecker vehicles in varied job site conditions.
  • Physical ability to get in and out of trucks frequently and assist with equipment handling when needed.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working in wrecking, demolition, or heavy construction operations.
  • Familiarity with hot shot driving and time-sensitive deliveries for construction equipment.
  • Comfort working with a small on-site crew and coordinating equipment drop-offs and pickups.
  • Strong attention to safety protocols and load securement practices.
  • Reliable work ethic and flexibility to switch between different trucks and equipment types based on project needs.
  • Bilingual communication skills are highly beneficial for coordinating with diverse teams.

Why Work Here?

You join a growing division where your skills with heavy equipment hauling directly support complex, high-impact projects. The role offers steady, full-time hours with consistent overtime, providing reliable income and the chance to develop specialized experience in wrecking and heavy construction transport. You work with a close-knit field team, gain exposure to multiple locations across Central Texas, and build your expertise with a variety of trucks, trailers, and equipment, all within a safety-focused and collaborative environment.

Work Environment

This position is field-based and shop-based, with extensive time spent on the road transporting equipment between the shop and job sites. You operate 18‑wheelers with low-boy trailers carrying 80,000–100,000 pound loads for heavy machinery, or smaller trucks such as Ford 2500‑type vehicles pulling trailers for skid steers, goosenecks, flatbeds, and enclosed tool trailers. The work takes place primarily around Austin, with regular travel to San Antonio and Houston, often in 1–2 week stretches, especially during the first year. You can expect a consistent 55–60 hour workweek, working in active construction and wrecking environments where safety, awareness, and adaptability are essential. Attire is typical for construction and driving roles, suitable for outdoor job sites and hands-on equipment work.
