Knowledge of:

·        DOT and FMCSA Regulations for Hazardous and Non-Hazardous materials

·        Safe loading and unloading of liquid bulk and packaged liquid hazmat

·        Shipping papers (Manifest/Bills of Lading)

·        Placarding & Labeling

·        Emergency Response Information

·        Personal Protective Equipment

·        First Aid for Exposure

·        Air Brake Systems

·        Safe Work Practices

  • U. S. Department of Transportation regulations covering drivers and the shipping of hazardous materials

Skill in:

·        Defensive Driving

·        Roll Stability Control

·        Braking Control

·        Backing and Docking

·        Connection/Disconnection of Hoses & Coupling

·        Gauging & Measurement

·        Pre and Post Transfer Checks

Ability to:

·        Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver heavy hoses, cylinders, equipment (often 50-75 lbs or more) during loading, unloading and maintenance task

  • Loads and unloads cargo tanks, performing appropriate actions in the proper sequence
  • Frequently exerts forces equivalent to lifting up to 25 pounds or occasionally 50 pounds
  • May sit for long periods of time while driving
  • Prepares driver’s logs and other transportation documents
  • Works alone most of the normal workday
  • Works with delivery deadlines
  • Observes and responds promptly to changing conditions, such as traffic, weather, and road conditions
  • Visually inspects vehicles, loaded materials and unloading facilities at customer locations
  • Read and understand training materials
  • Wear required safety equipment
  • Provide quick reaction or immediate response to required situations
  • Cooperate and get along with co-workers and customer representatives

Work environment:

·        Excessive Noise

·        Extreme Hot and Cold Temperatures

  • Traffic and weather conditions
  • Hazardous materials, such as flammable liquids, corrosive materials and compressed gases

·        Work irregular hours, 12+ Hour shifts

Requirements

  High school diploma or equivalent

·        Minimum age 25

·        Class A CDL with Hazmat and Tanker Endorsements Required

·        Ability to Operate a Manual Transmission Tractor Required

·        Two years’ verifiable experience operating a Commercial Tractor Trailer Required

·        Ability to safely lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs unassisted and up to 150 lbs (typically)

with the use of mechanical equipment (e.g., dollies, hand trucks, or team-lift assistance) Required

·        Clear FMCSA Clearinghouse and satisfactory MVR & PSP (Good Driving Record) Required

·        Ability to operate commercial vehicles across state lines Required

·        Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen andphysical Required

·        Reliable transportation Required

·        Stable employment history Required

·        Occasional travel to other plants may be required based on business needs

  • Must be able to work nights, weekends, and an extended workweek-overnight and/or out of town travel may be required
  • Must have some mechanical and electrical aptitude
  • Must have a professional appearance and demeanor
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions
  • Must be able to use three points of access getting in and out of the tractor, multiple times a day
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a team environment and get along with others
  • Strong customer service skills, and the ability to effectively prioritize, multi-task, manage time, organize, and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
