Job Summary: The CDL Driver/Laborer is responsible for the safe operation of commercial vehicles equipped with dump bodies to transport and unload materials essential for utility construction projects, with a focus on natural gas and underground utilities. This role also involves performing various manual labor tasks to support construction activities, ensuring adherence to all safety and operational standards.
Responsibilities:
Operate and maintain commercial vehicles (CDL Class A or B) with dump bodies to transport and unload materials such as sand, gravel, and construction equipment.
Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety and compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
Load and unload equipment and materials, ensuring proper securing of loads to prevent shifting or damage during transit.
Comprehensive understanding of DOT regulations and safety compliance related to commercial vehicle operation.
Proficiency in operating heavy equipment and commercial vehicles in various construction environments.
Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and safety guidelines.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make informed decisions under pressure.
Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with team members and supervisors.
Physical stamina and dexterity to perform labor-intensive tasks in diverse weather conditions.
Commitment to teamwork and collaboration to achieve project goals efficiently.
Assist in various construction tasks, including but not limited to:
Excavation and trenching for underground utility installations.
Installation and maintenance of natural gas pipelines and related infrastructure.
Backfilling and compaction of excavated areas.
Restoration of work sites, including paving and landscaping.
Adhere to all company safety protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and participation in safety meetings.
Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and site personnel to ensure efficient workflow and address any issues promptly.
Complete and maintain accurate records, including vehicle logs, load tickets, and maintenance reports.
Perform other duties as assigned to support project completion and company objectives.
Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and crouching.
Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds regularly.
Climbing ladders and working at heights as required.
Extended periods of sitting and driving.
Education/Experience:
Valid CDL Class A or B license with a clean driving record.
Valid DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate.
OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety Certification or willingness to obtain upon hire.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in construction driving, preferably in utility construction.
Vocational training or certification in construction-related fields.
Experience with natural gas utility construction and underground utility installations.
Familiarity with excavation safety practices and trenching operations.
