Industrial Services Operator

(Vacuum Truck / Equipment Operator)

Division: Industrial Services
Reports To: Field Supervisor / Operations Manager
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly)
Travel: Regional travel required; overnight travel as needed
Schedule: Variable shifts, nights, weekends, and overtime as required

Position Summary

The Industrial Services Operator is responsible for the safe operation of vacuum trucks, hydroblasting units, and related heavy equipment in support of industrial and environmental services projects. This role serves as the primary equipment operator on job sites and works closely with Technicians and Leads to ensure work is performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all regulatory and company standards.

This is a safety-sensitive, field-based role requiring strong technical skill, sound judgment, and strict adherence to safety protocols.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate vacuum trucks, hydroblasting units, and related industrial equipment

  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle and equipment inspections

  • Safely transport equipment to and from job sites

  • Set up, operate, and break down equipment in accordance with job scope

  • Monitor equipment performance and job conditions during operations

  • Perform basic troubleshooting and report mechanical issues immediately

  • Coordinate closely with Technicians and Lead Technicians on site

  • Follow all safety policies, JHAs, confined space procedures, and lockout/tagout requirements

  • Ensure proper handling, containment, and transport of waste materials

  • Maintain accurate job documentation, DVIRs, and time records

  • Maintain cleanliness and readiness of vehicles, tools, and equipment

  • Stop work and escalate issues when unsafe conditions are identified

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred

  • Minimum 2+ years experience operating industrial or heavy equipment

  • Valid CDL (Class A or B) with acceptable driving record (if required by equipment assigned)

  • Ability to pass DOT physical, drug and alcohol testing

  • Strong safety record and attendance history

  • Ability to work variable schedules, overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays

  • Ability to perform physically demanding work in industrial environments

Preferred Qualifications

  • HydroVac or vacuum truck operating experience

  • HAZWOPER (40-hour or 8-hour refresher)

  • Confined Space Entry / Attendant / Supervisor certification

  • TWIC card

  • Experience in refinery, plant, or heavy industrial environments

Safety & Compliance Expectations

  • Adhere to all OSHA, DOT, and company safety regulations

  • Participate in safety meetings, training, and required certifications

  • Maintain a zero-incident, safety-first mindset

  • Immediate reporting of incidents, near misses, or unsafe conditions

Physical Demands

  • Lift, push, and pull up to 75 lbs

  • Prolonged standing, sitting, walking, bending, climbing, kneeling

  • Exposure to noise, dust, fumes, hazardous materials, and extreme temperatures

  • Required use of PPE including respirators and protective clothing

Work Environment

This position operates primarily in industrial field environments, including refineries, plants, terminals, and customer job sites. Work conditions may be physically demanding and require flexibility.
