CEI Inspector Requisition Number 2026-2702-01

Are you a CEI Inspector ready for a role that offers growth, challenge, and the support of a company that values its people while delivering exceptional service to clients? S&ME is seeking motivated full-time CEI Inspectors at all experience levels to join our Service Line team across South Carolina, including:

  • and nearby regions.

As a CEI Inspector, youll play a critical role in overseeing contractor activities and ensuring the successful completion of projects. You may make key technical decisions and work independently or as part of a team on projects. Your Day-to-Day tasks will include:

  • Overseeing construction activities, including grading, paving, bridge work, and traffic control, to ensure they meet project plans, specifications, and safety standards.
  • Evaluating erosion control measures, confirming environmental compliance, and performing material sampling and quality tests.
  • Preparing detailed daily inspection reports, monitoring contractor progress, and maintaining documentation needed for payment processing.
  • Completing calculations, tracking material quantities, and helping to keep project milestones on schedule.
  • Attending safety and progress meetings, working with contractors, engineers, and project stakeholders to resolve issues and sustain project momentum.
  • Conducting DBEE/EO compliance reviews to verify workforce diversity and equal opportunity requirements are being met.

What You Bring:

  • A high school diploma or GED
  • Highway-related construction or inspection experience (a plus)
  • A technical degree or higher in Civil Engineering Technology or Surveying Technology (will equate to 1 year of experience)
  • One or more active SCDOT-based certifications (a plus)
  • Strong communication skills, speaking, reading, and writing in the English language
  • Good math skills with a basic understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure
  • An understanding of a fluctuating schedule and interest in occasional travel

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

  • You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment.
  • You are willing and able to work outdoors the majority of the time in varying weather conditions.
  • You are willing and able to walk over rough uneven terrain and stand for potentially long periods.
  • You are willing and able to routinely lift and carry 40-50lbs of field and laboratory samples and equipment.
  • You are willing and able to work outside of normal business hours when necessary.
