Purpose: To plan, direct, and conduct the inspection, dismantle, diagnosis and repair of all Continuous Emissions Monitor Systems (CEM), Water lab instrumentation and assist with the diagnosis and repair of instrument and electronic control equipment associated with generating units.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- High school diploma or recognized equivalent.
- Satisfactory completion of a recognized instrument apprenticeship program and two years of experience at a journeyman level OR six years of journeyman level experience in instrumentation and control, theory and maintenance.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the theory and practical application of electronic, pneumatic and electric control systems, and a basic understanding of power generation principles.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience of standard practices, materials, tools and equipment in CEM/Lab Instrumentation and control systems for power plant operation or other industrial plants.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the installation and use of instruments and tools for testing, maintenance and repair of CEM/Lab equipment with an additional skill set to perform work on generation instrumentation equipment as required.
- Ability to work from prints, drawings and instruction manuals to test and trace out electronics, electrical and pneumatic circuits and systems and make necessary adjustments and repairs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of PC's, PLC programming and maintenance, DCS and DAS systems.
- Demonstrated knowledge of EPA Rules and Regulations for CEMS and CEM Maintenance.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Water Lab instrumentation and analyzing equipment, including water treatment equipment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the theory, operation and maintenance of gas sampling analyzers, optical smoke and dust monitors and gas dilution systems.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations as related to general scope of trade.
- Satisfactory completion of respirator certification.
- Any equivalent combination of related education, training, and/or experience can be substituted for requirements listed above.
ESSENTIAL AND MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
- Perform routine, preventive and emergency maintenance on all AEPCO's generating assets:
- Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems equipment, Computerized Water Lab Analysis equipment, and other environmental control systems.
- Recommend and assist in the formulation and performance of station preventative maintenance in the instrumentation areas of the plant.
- Recommend, maintain and promote the safe working practices and procedures in regard to station equipment and personnel.
- Maintain accurate records, reports and schedules of record maintenance accomplished in accordance with procedures established.
- Promote and practice the proper care, handling and use of materials, parts, tools, equipment and supplies.
- Responsible for the cleanliness of the assigned working areas.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all station wiring, instruments, equipment drawings and instruction books for future reference.
- Expedite any and all emergency repairs and operation of station CEM/lab equipment.
- Troubleshoot and assist others in repair of all power plant equipment.
- Promote communication of information to supervisor and subordinates under direction.
- Perform other occupational group related duties as required and for which qualified to perform safely.
- Responsible for the proper setting, calibration and testing of all station electrical and electronic control equipment in the station as assigned.
- Responsible for working with all composite instrument crew personnel as required or requested during scheduled overhauls.
- Communicate to shift supervisors and others as required, concerning operational clearances and related problems encountered.
- Must occasionally work in confined spaces.
- Must be willing and capable of traveling to all AEPCO generation facilities as required.
