Position Summary:

  • The Central Processing Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the cleanliness, functionality, and readiness of equipment used in patient care, such as IV Pumps, Suction Equipment, Orthopedic Equipment, and Defibrillators. This position is responsible for cleaning and assembling respiratory boxes, processing soiled equipment returned to Central Processing, and staging all cleaned items according to established guidelines. The Central Processing Technician also inspects rechargeable equipment for compliance and functionality, documents production activities, and communicates any issues to management. This role supports clinical operations by maintaining high standards of safety, accuracy, and accountability in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Responds to requests, for cleaning equipment in a timely manner.
  • Notify appropriate management with explanation if unable to process all of the soiled equipment within Central Processing by the end of the shift.
  • Notifies supervisor when it is necessary to reorder supplies.
  • Restocks assigned area with supplies needed to clean and check equipment.
  • Must wear designated gloves, face shield, gown, head and foot coverings before entering and during any time spent in the decontamination area.
  • Follows established guidelines as appropriate for cleaning all soiled equipment returned to Central Processing.
  • Assembles and stages as designated all respiratory boxes.
  • When exiting the decontamination area all protective covering must be removed immediately to prevent spread of possible contact infectious contaminations.
  • Use established recording methods for accountability of all production.
  • Report to supervisor or Retail Storeroom phone person when work is completed and be available for reassignment.
  • Participate in department meetings/action planning and physical inventories with Materials Management.

Education or Equivalent Experience:

High School Diploma/GED (Required)
