Position Summary:
Under the leadership of the Director of Surgical Services, the Central Sterile Technician is an active member of the department and participates in decontamination, cleaning, assembling, packaging, sterilization, storage and distribution of reusable surgical instrumentation and equipment. The Tech collaborates with the healthcare team providers to prepare for the peri-operative patient’s surgical procedures. The Tech assist with ordering and restocking of surgical suites with necessary supplies and reviews preference cards electronically providing up-to-date information that assists in achieving quality surgical outcomes for all cases. The Tech assists in preparing used instruments for transport to CS for decontamination, manual and automated cleaning and sterilization and adheres to all procedures for labeling trays for identification. The Central sterile tech maintains records for the processing of surgical instruments.
Basic Qualifications:
Requires a high school diploma or a GED state certification and the successful completion of a Surgical Technician program or Licensed Practical Nurse.
Requires up to one year of work related experience or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Requires and maintains a Surgical Technician certification or License by the State Board. (If Surgical Technician Certification is not current, it must be obtained within six (6) months of hire.)
Requires and maintains a certification in Basic Life Saving (BLS). (If BLS certification is not current upon hire, it must be obtained within the orientation period).
