This position will provide services directly to students place residing in the medical facility of Pope's Place for Kids.Required Qualifications:• Possession of a valid Washington State Teaching certificate• Possession of an endorsement in Special Education K-12• Successful experience establishing and carrying out positive behavior interventions systems• Working knowledge of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and Social Emotional Learning (SEL) best practices• Trained or willing to be trained in trauma-informed de-escalation, restraint and isolation strategies• Knowledge of all phases of the special education process, procedures and disability categories. Some assignments may require special expertise in various disability categories, e.g. Autism, Emotional Behavioral Disability• Ability to communicate effectively, possess awareness (for self and others), listen actively, be patient, incorporate humor/lightheartedness into work, be empathic, possess a growth mindset, and be customer-service oriented• Experience planning for and managing the work of paraeducator support staff• Ability to support the District's vision, mission, and goals including the belief that all students can succeed• Ability to maintain a positive attitude• Ability to team-teach• Familiarity with racial equity and inclusion frameworks• Successful experience working with self-direction and a high degree of collaboration• Possession of organizational skills and flexibility to respond to changing student needs• Ability to function in a calm, efficient, courteous manner under stress and to exercise careful judgment, confidentiality and tact in the performance of duties• Ability to establish and maintain a professional relationship with students• Ability to act in an ethical and confidential manner in all aspects of employment• Ability to meet the following immunizations and health requirements:o Annual Seasonal Influenza Vaccine (current flu season)o Tdap Vaccine (within the last 10 years)o MMR (Measles, Mumps, and Rubella)o Varicella (Chickenpox)o Hepatitis B Vaccine Series or a signed declination formo Initial COVID-19 Vaccination Series (accommodations are accepted) Religious Accommodation: Requires completion of an accommodation request form and a signed letter from a clergy member.o Medical Accommodation: Requires completion of an accommodation request form and a letter from your healthcare provider.o N95 Fit Test (Pope's Place can provide onsite fit testing if needed)o QuantiFERON-TB Gold Test (must be completed within one year of your start date)• Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodationPreferred Qualifications:• At least five years of successful special education teaching experience• Ability to speak Spanish• Multi-lingual Endorsement• Experience working with students from diverse backgroundsEssential Functions:• Develops, implements, and adjusts an inclusive and individualized behavioral intervention plan, coordinating with staff and parents, as appropriate, for the purpose of teaching positive behavior while creating a safe space for optimal learning• Designs, implements, and adjusts intentional instruction and programs for students in the identified area(s) of need, per the IEP• Guides and assist with health, feeding, and hygiene needs of students• Applies an understanding of trauma informed practice• Successfully integrates qualified students into appropriate classrooms for peer interaction, socialization, and/or academics.• Maintains records and data on student progress toward meeting the goal area identified in the IEP• Understands the Common Core and adapts access to general education curriculum as appropriate• Motivates, redirects student behavior, and interacts with students in a productive manner• Delivers depth, complexity, and rigor in content-driven lessons• When appropriate, provides individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying intellectual abilities, attitudes, and cultural backgrounds• Utilizes state and district assessments and standards in the planning and delivery of instruction• Promotes collaboration between school administration, staff, and parents for the purpose of maintaining effective, consistent, and regular communication between all stakeholders• Participates in curriculum development and implementation of special education services• Administers, scores, interprets, and writes analyses of standardized and curriculum-based assessments (CBA) and shares the analysis verbally at IEP meetings• Confers, counsels, trains and assists site administrators and school staff regarding specialized procedures and requirements• Conducts testing, interprets results, and participates with the multi-disciplinary teams in the identification of special education students• Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g. other teachers, parents, administrators, etc.) around aspects of special education services• Stays current on policies and laws related to special education• Develops and maintains collaborative and transparent relationships with other district staff, families, and community partners.• Completes all documentation as required by law or prescribed by the Executive Director of Special Services, including but not limited to IEPs, assessment documents, and progress reporting• Attends staff and other professional meetings as appropriate or directed• Uses and integrate technology for communication and instruction• Other duties as assignedSalary: $34,415.24 - $68,914.16 annually, DOEWork schedule: .5 FTE 180 Days per year.
