to develop appreciation of good literature and effective writing of all types; to motivate students to read widely for information, writing models, and recreation; to develop standards for critical judgment of written and oral communication in themselves, their peers, as well as professional writers; and to discover and develop special talents of students in the field of English.Required Qualifications: Possession of a valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with English Language Arts endorsement Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, possess awareness (for self and others), listen actively, be patient, incorporate humor/lightheartedness into work, be empathic, possess a growth mindset, and be customer-service oriented Demonstrated organizational skills and flexibility to respond to changing student needs Ability to maintain confidentiality, work independently and in a team setting, and effectively problem-solve Ability to establish relationships with students, parents, and the community Proven ability to successfully work with students and adults Demonstrated ability to maintain a positive attitude Ability to support the District's vision, mission, goals, and Culture Code including the belief that all students can succeed Ability to uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodationsPreferred Qualifications: Ability to speak Spanish Successful experience as a secondary school teacher Successful experience working with people from a variety of backgroundEssential Functions: Teaches content and skills in the English language to high school students, utilizing courses of study adopted by the Board of Education or other appropriate learning activities including but not limited to speech, drama, literature, composition, reading, and/or journalism Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district Adapts language arts materials and methods to develop relevant sequential assignments that guide and challenge students Selects and requisitions books and instructional aids appropriate to the interest and maturity level of students while maintaining required inventory records Adapts the curriculum to provide individual, small group, or remedial instruction to meet the needs of the individual student Develops standards for critical analysis through group discussion based on a variety of mass media and classical and contemporary literature Encourages students to think independently and to express original ideas Evaluates each student's progress in language arts skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment Identifies student needs, and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the student day Work with students and other classroom teachers in such activities as preparing material for the school newspaper or yearbook, coordinating entries in essay contests, in forensics, or drama Administers or monitors group tests Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs Cooperates with other members of the department to maintain standards, scope, and sequence Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and/or in self-selected professional growth activities Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which they will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines Attends trainings and meetings as directed or appropriate Other duties as assignedSalary: $23,609.21 - $47,276.02, depending on experience and qualificationsWork schedule: 7.5 Hours Per Day-62 Days .34 FTE Temporary Long-Term Leave ReplacementBenefits: Sick leave and personal leave days;
