What a Day Looks Like

Morning kicks off with a service ticket for a Centac unit across town. You load precision gauges and tools, review wiring diagrams, and head to a customer site. On arrival, you assess the compressed air system, complete a 47-point inspection, and verify the health of supporting equipment like refrigerated and desiccant dryers. You troubleshoot vibration trends and air quality readings, track down a control anomaly in the schematic, and bring a Turbo Air compressor back within spec. Before leaving, you document everything in work orders and time sheets, coordinate parts with the Service Coordinator, and brief the customer on improvements including Package CARE, Preventive Maintenance, Diagnostics, Audits, and Leak Detection options. Another customer calls—an installation start-up is scheduled for tomorrow—so you verify parts availability and align with a supplier on procedures.

Your Impact

  • Commission, start up, install, maintain, and repair centrifugal compressors (Centac and Turbo Air) and related compressed air components.
  • Use precision measuring tools to diagnose complex issues in compressed air equipment.
  • Interpret wiring diagrams and schematics to investigate and resolve technical problems.
  • Complete digital work orders, maintenance checklists, and daily time reporting with accuracy.
  • Advise customers on system optimization and Ingersoll Rand service programs that boost uptime and efficiency.
  • Perform safety assessments in dynamic environments and execute 47-point preventive maintenance on a wide range of compressors and dryers.
  • Partner with Service Coordinators and operations to source and stage parts and supplies for jobs.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and external partners to align on procedures, practices, and policies.
  • Conduct basic vibration analysis and air quality troubleshooting.

What You Bring

  • 3–5 years of hands-on experience with centrifugal compressors.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license held for at least 12 months. No major or frequent violations, including (but not limited to): DUI within the past 5 years, Hit & Run, License Suspension, Reckless/Careless Driving, or multiple minor infractions/preventable collisions within the past 3 years.
  • Comfort working in mechanical rooms and other varied conditions: high noise, extreme weather, elevated or confined spaces, and around high voltage per NFPA or equivalent standards.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work: frequent use of hands/fingers, walking, stooping, kneeling, and regularly lifting/moving weights per safety policy.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and basic computer tools; proficiency with smartphones/tablets (e.g., iPad) and network-based systems.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution.
