Certification Specialist

We are currently seeking motivated candidates with clerical or bookkeeping experience for a Certification Specialist position with a large public housing agency in Akron. This is a great opportunity to join a dedicated team that provides vital services to the community.
In this role, you will handle annual and interim recertifications and rent adjustments for project-based section 8 and tax-credit tenants, ensuring compliance with Agency and HUD guidelines. You will also interact directly with residents, gather and verify income information, and maintain accurate documentation.

HOURS:
MondayFriday, 8:00AM 4:30PM
PAY:
$18.50/hour
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conduct annual and interim recertifications within established time frames
Interview residents to gather income and family information, prepare third-party verifications, and calculate rent accurately
Determine retro rent, calculate underpayment, and schedule repayment agreements
Complete tenant accounting documents and submit for review
Set up repayment plans, data enter rent charges, and establish monthly repayment programs
Prepare rent changes and tax credit documentation
Review and update employment verification reports while maintaining resident confidentiality
Verify income with employers and provide residents with information about reporting requirements and policies
Calculate rent adjustments and conduct home/site visits as needed
Deliver excellent customer service to tenants and colleagues
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or equivalent plus one year of clerical and/or bookkeeping experience
Proficiency with computers required
Rent Calculation certification preferred, but must be obtained within one year of employment
Accuracy with data entry and complex calculations
Ability to multitask, organize, and prioritize effectively
Must have a valid Ohio Drivers License and be insurable
NICE TO HAVE SKILLS:
- Experience with HUD guidelines and rental documentation
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One or more years of clerical, bookkeeping, or related experience
