Duties:
- Review medical records and documentation to identify relevant diagnoses and procedures
- Assign appropriate medical codes using ICD-9, ICD-10, and other coding systems
- Ensure coding accuracy and compliance with industry regulations and guidelines
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation and resolve coding discrepancies
- Conduct regular audits to monitor coding quality and identify areas for improvement
- Stay updated on changes in coding regulations, guidelines, and industry best practices
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information and adhere to HIPAA regulations
- Assist with medical billing processes as needed
Skills:
- Proficient knowledge of medical coding systems (ICD-9, ICD-10)
- Familiarity with medical terminology, procedures, and diagnoses
- Strong understanding of medical billing processes and reimbursement methodologies
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in coding assignments
- Ability to interpret complex medical documentation and translate it into accurate codes
- Knowledge of DRG (Diagnosis Related Group) coding is a plus
- Experience with medical collections or medical office operations is preferred
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with healthcare providers and other team members
