Certified Industrial Hygienist (Remote-based in Columbia/Baltimore, DC, or Alexandria)

Overview

A leading engineering and technical consulting organization is seeking a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) with a broad background in occupational and environmental health and safety. This role involves evaluating and controlling risks associated with occupational and public exposure to chemical, biological, and physical hazards. The successful candidate will manage, plan, coordinate, conduct, and complete investigations that address complex environmental and health-related questions.

Location: Remote, with residence required in Columbia/Baltimore, DC, or Alexandria

Travel: Local travel required, with occasional travel throughout the United States

Schedule: Full-time working in the field with occasional visits to the office in Columbia, MD

Compensation: $83,300 - $124,900 annually, depending on education, experience, certifications, and licensure. A quarterly incentive and paid mileage.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate and analyze existing conditions and historical events in residential, commercial, industrial, and public settings
  • Evaluate and help control exposure to health hazards, including:
    • Indoor air quality concerns
    • Noise exposure
    • Soot tracing
    • Mold assessments
    • Asbestos evaluations
    • Moisture mapping
    • Other environmental and occupational health hazards
  • Operate environmental sampling and testing equipment
  • Communicate directly with clients regarding project scope, schedules, and budgets
  • Prepare detailed written and oral reports documenting findings, analyses, and conclusions
  • Provide expert testimony in depositions and/or trial proceedings when required
  • Travel locally and occasionally participate in overnight assignments

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a science, engineering, or related technical field
  • 5-10 years of relevant industrial hygiene, environmental, or occupational health experience
  • Current Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification required
  • Strong knowledge of federal and/or state OSHA regulations
  • Experience or familiarity with building sciences is highly preferred
  • Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to explain complex technical concepts to a variety of audiences
  • Capable of working independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds
  • Ability to wear a tight-fitting respirator as required
