Learn About a Day in the Life of a Medical Assistant: ResponsibilitiesPerforms administrative and certain clinical duties under the direction of a physician.Administrative duties may include scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, billing, and coding information for insurance purposes.Clinical duties may include rooming patients, taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, drawing blood, and administering medications as directed by physician. QualificationsJob Requirements:High school diploma or GED equivalent. Graduate from an accredited medical assistant/medical technologist school/program. Current national certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA). Basic Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Microsoft Office knowledge. BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care.Preferred Job Requirements:Associate's degree. Prior experience in a clinic or hospital setting supporting patient care.
