Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)

Position Overview

We are seeking a compassionate, organized, and detail-oriented Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to join our healthcare team. The Certified Medical Assistant will provide clinical and administrative support to physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals while delivering excellent patient care.

The ideal candidate is professional, dependable, patient-focused, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment while maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to applicable healthcare standards and regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

• Prepare examination rooms and ensure they are clean, stocked, and ready for patients.
• Obtain and document patient medical histories, vital signs, medications, allergies, and other pertinent information.
• Prepare patients for examinations, procedures, and treatments.
• Assist physicians and healthcare providers during examinations and minor procedures.
• Perform routine clinical tasks within the scope of certification and applicable regulations.
• Collect and prepare laboratory specimens as directed.
• Perform or assist with approved diagnostic tests, such as EKGs and point-of-care testing.
• Administer medications and injections as permitted by state regulations and provider orders.
• Assist with wound care, dressing changes, and other basic clinical procedures as directed.
• Clean and sterilize instruments and maintain appropriate infection-control procedures.
• Monitor and maintain clinical supplies and equipment.
• Follow OSHA, HIPAA, infection-control, and other applicable healthcare requirements.

Patient Care

• Provide compassionate and professional care to patients throughout their visit.
• Communicate clearly with patients regarding procedures, instructions, and follow-up care.
• Answer routine patient questions and direct clinical questions to the appropriate healthcare provider.
• Maintain patient comfort, dignity, and privacy.
• Recognize and promptly report changes in patient condition to the appropriate healthcare professional.
• Provide patients with appropriate educational materials and instructions as directed by the provider.

Administrative Duties

• Schedule and coordinate patient appointments.
• Check patients in and out and verify demographic and insurance information.
• Answer phones, respond to messages, and communicate with patients professionally.
• Enter and update patient information in the electronic health record (EHR).
• Assist with referrals, prior authorizations, medical records, and prescription requests.
• Process and document patient forms and medical correspondence.
• Assist with medical billing and coding tasks as needed.
• Maintain accurate and confidential patient records.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred/required.
• Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential from a recognized certifying organization, as applicable.
• Current CPR/BLS certification preferred or required.
• Previous clinical experience preferred.
• Knowledge of basic medical terminology, anatomy, and clinical procedures.
• Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent organization and attention to detail.
• Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and professionalism.
• Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
• Ability to multitask and remain calm in a fast-paced clinical setting.
