Schedule: Day Shift | 5x8
Compensation
- Traveler Pay: $38 – $42/hr (based on experience)
- Local Pay: $30 – $35/hr (based on experience)
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Certified Medical Coder with a strong background in outpatient and Emergency Department coding. This position will begin with 1–2 weeks of onsite training before transitioning to a remote work arrangement once duties are fully mastered.
The ideal candidate will possess advanced coding knowledge, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Responsibilities
- Review and accurately assign medical codes for outpatient and Emergency Department encounters
- Utilize EPIC and 3M/HDS coding applications to ensure accurate documentation and billing compliance
- Interpret clinical documentation and assign appropriate ICD, CPT, and HCPCS codes
- Ensure compliance with coding guidelines, payer requirements, and federal billing regulations
- Research and resolve coding-related issues and discrepancies
- Maintain accuracy and productivity standards while meeting departmental deadlines
- Collaborate with providers, clinical staff, and revenue cycle teams to clarify documentation as needed
- Support coding quality initiatives and maintain coding integrity standards
- Participate in ongoing education and coding updates to remain current with industry regulations
Required Qualifications
- Minimum four (4) years of outpatient coding experience required
- Emergency Department coding experience required
- Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and disease processes
- Experience using:
- EPIC EMR
- 3M/HDS coding applications
- Ability to work independently with minimal training and supervision
- Strong understanding of:
- Coding guidelines
- Payor guidelines
- Federal billing regulations
Education
- High School Diploma or GED required
Required Certifications
Candidates must hold one or more of the following active certifications:
- CCS (Certified Coding Specialist)
- CCP
- RHIA
- RHIT
Certifications must be issued through AHIMA or equivalent approved credentialing organization.
