CERTIFIED MEDICATION AIDE

POSITION SUMMARY
Provides quality care by performing tasks associated with medication administration, including patient vital signs, calculation of medication dosages, and stocking of the medication cart. Assists with providing a safe, comforting, and calm environment for the resident which includes observation and reporting of resident needs.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

QUALITY
Dispenses oral, inhalation, and topical medications to residents under direct supervision of a licensed nurse; observes patients for drug reactions and reports any problems to the nurse.
Consistently demonstrates effective skills delivering care in a safe, efficicent, competent manner within accreditory/regulatory guidelines.
Demonstrates appropriate interaction with health care team, relaying pertinent information to the appropriate staff in a timely manner.
Demonstrates appropriate and accurate documentation according to policy.

ACCESS
Demonstrates effective communication with residents and families and other members of the health care team.

STEWARDSHIP
Demonstrates appropriate communication with pertinent members of the health care team regarding unsafe conditions, family concerns, or change in resident status.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM EDUCATION
Completion of a certified nurse aide and certified medication aide training course

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE
None

REQUIRED REGISTRATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATION
Current Certified Nurse Aide certification
Current Certified Medication Aide certification

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfers up to 50 pounds
Prolonged, extensive or considerable standing/walking
Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching
Manual dexterity and mobility
Near acuity: ability to see clearly at 20 inches or less

WORKING CONDITIONS
Regularly exposed to the risk of blood borne and/or infectious diseases
Exposed to odorous chemicals and specimens
Exposed to hazards from electrical/mechanical/power equipment
Exposed to unpleasant elements (accident, injury, illness, etc.)
Subject to varying and unpredictable situations
Subject to emergency or crisis situations
Subject to many interruptions; pressure due to multiple calls, inquires, and/or deadlines
Subject to irregular hours (days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays)
