Position Summary
The Certified Medication Aide (CMA) is a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) who has completed a state-approved medication aide training program and is responsible for administering routine medications to residents in accordance with physician orders, facility policies, and state regulations. The CMA works under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse and supports the care team in maintaining a safe, effective, and person-centered medication management process.
Pay Range: $19.50 - $23.50 Employment Type: Full-Time Schedule: 11:00 PM - 7:30 AM & rotating weekends
Essential Responsibilities
Administer non-parenteral medications, oral, topical inhalation, and mucosal as delegated by a licensed nurse. Document medication administration accurately and promptly. Observe residents for adverse reactions or side effects and immediately report findings to a licensed nurse. Adhere to the "Five Rights" of medication administration. Assist residents with ADLs when not administering medications. Maintain medication security and proper storage procedures. Participate in shift reports and interdisciplinary communication. Comply with infection control, safety, and resident rights standards. Support Resthavens mission, values, and standards of excellence.
Learn and know individualized care plans for residents and provide services to residents according to care plans. Aide in total care of grooming, bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, incontinent care, toileting, transferring, ambulation, range of motion, communicating, turning, repositioning, or other needs. Lift, move, and transport residents. Maintain the comfort, privacy, and dignity of each resident in the delivery of services. Clean and sanitize workrooms, equipment, and resident units. Ensure compliance with established infection control procedures. Observe charts and report changes in resident condition or behavior to appropriate licensed nursing personnel. Answer residents requests for service promptly. Assist with various tasks, including vital signs, residents weights, applying creams, ointments, collecting specimens, etc. Float between all units depending on the need. Assumes all other position-related responsibilities as assigned.

Maintains confidentiality in all aspects of the Care Center, its residents, and employees. Proficient interpersonal relations. Reading, writing, grammar, and mathematics skills. Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Education, Training, Experience
High school graduate or successful completion of GED. Must have worked at least 2000 hours as a nurse aide in a nursing home or skilled nursing facility during the two years prior, especially caring for the elderly with memory loss. Participates in learning and development opportunities. Attends all required in-service training and departmental meetings.
Required Licenses, Registration, and/or Certifications
Successful completion of a Michigan state-approved nurse assistant certification course or other education that meets state certification requirements. Must hold current nurse assistant certification in Michigan. Completion of a Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) - approved Medication Aide training program. Successful completion of the state CMA competency exam. Current listing on the Michigan Nurse Aide Registry as CMA.
