    Job Description:

    Certified Medication Technician (CMT)

    Location: Buffalo Prairie Care Center
    Department: Nursing
    Reports To: Charge Nurse (LPN/RN) or Director of Nursing
    FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
    Employment Type: Full-Time

    Position Summary

    Buffalo Prairie Care Center is seeking a compassionate and dependable Certified Medication Technician (CMT) to join our nursing team. The CMT is responsible for safely administering medications to residents under the supervision of a licensed nurse while providing exceptional resident care in accordance with federal, state, and facility regulations. This position plays a vital role in promoting resident health, comfort, dignity, and quality of life.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Administer prescribed medications accurately and safely under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
    • Follow the "Five Rights" of medication administration and facility medication policies.
    • Observe residents for medication effectiveness and adverse reactions and promptly report concerns to the licensed nurse.
    • Accurately document medication administration and treatments in the electronic medical record.
    • Obtain and record vital signs as required before administering medications.
    • Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, eating, and mobility as needed.
    • Respond promptly to resident call lights and requests for assistance.
    • Maintain medication carts, treatment carts, and medication storage areas in a clean, organized, and secure manner.
    • Monitor medication supplies and notify nursing staff when refills are needed.
    • Assist with admissions, transfers, and discharges as directed.
    • Communicate changes in resident condition to the licensed nurse immediately.
    • Follow infection prevention, safety, and emergency procedures.
    • Maintain resident confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
    • Participate in shift reports, care conferences, and required in-service education.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by nursing leadership.

    Qualifications

    • Current Missouri Certified Medication Technician (CMT) certification in good standing.
    • Current Missouri Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) certification preferred or as required by state regulations.
    • Current CPR certification preferred.
    • Previous experience in long-term care or skilled nursing is preferred but not required.
    • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
    • Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills.

    Physical Requirements

    • Ability to lift, transfer, and reposition residents safely.
    • Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 50 pounds with assistance when necessary.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
