The Nurse Midwife is responsible for the providing prenatal education and support, attending childbirth, providing encouragement during labor and delivery. Provides care to women during pregnancies and deliveries and calls on Physician if complications develop.
Responsibilities:
Performs nurse duties related to midwifery including gynecological exams, preconception care, prenatal care, labor and delivery care, care after birth.
Educates women about different types of care available.
Emphasizes patient education, active participation, and clear communication, between the provider and the woman and individualized healthcare experience.
Advocates birth education, relies on technology only when medically necessary.
Writes prescriptions as needed.
Serves as OB/GYN team member working closely with Physicians and other staff to support healthy pregnancies and deliveries.
Oversees the medical care of assigned pregnant patients under the supervision of a physician.
Ability to assess a situation, consider alternatives, and choose and appropriate course of action.
Teaches patient about elements of mother-baby bonding.
Knowledge of nurse midwifery principles and techniques
Ability to participate effectively as a team member
Knowledge of methods ensuring safe working environment for patient, family and staff.
On call responsibilities and flexible office shifts.
