This position will assist in-patient care throughout the nursing areas and is responsible for: the safe transport of patients via wheelchair or stretcher, the dispatch of services and the appropriate documentation of services. Provides the services of an Observer for any patient on a patient care unit who has been assessed to require constant observation to maximize his/her safety. Performs general receptionist and clerical duties to facilitate efficient functioning of the nursing unit.
Current Nursing Assistant certification.
Minimum of two years patient care experience.
Observes and reports patient's status and needs.
Answers call lights and attends to/reports patient needs.
Obtains specimens and transport to and sends through designated tube.
Transfers, moves, and repositions patients.
Makes occupied and unoccupied beds.
Maintains current knowledge and certification requirements.
Attends all required Safety Training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety and specific job-related hazards.
Respects and regards the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
Takes vital signs
Measures patient blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respirations, and oxygen saturation.
Records findings in the EMR and reports values to the primary RN.
Obtains blood glucose from patients and reports results to RN.
Empty tubes and drains to include but not limited to: indwelling urinary catheters, J/P (Jackson Pratt) drains, and Hemovac drains. Record the output in the EMR and report them to the primary RN.
Assists RN with simple bedside procedures to include but not limited to: urinary catheter
insertion and/or removal, tubes and drains, and bandage changes.
Measures and records food and liquid intake, urinary, fecal, tubes and drains output and report
values to RNs.
Bladder scan patients and report the results to the primary RN.
Reinforce/encourage patient after initial education/teaching has been completed by the RN.
Perform other duties as assigned.
