Description Summary: Educated health care provider who assists the Occupational Therapist in the provision of Occupational Therapy. Works under the direction and supervision of the registered Occupational Therapist in the home environment practice setting.

Responsibilities

  1. May perform occupational therapy procedures and related tasks that have been selected and delegated by the supervising Occupational Therapist.
  2. Documentation of treatments and progress documentation must be assigned by supervising Occupational Therapist.
  3. May modify a specific treatment procedure in accordance with patient status within the scope of the established treatment plan.
  4. The performance of the delegated functions by the COTA must be consistent with safe legal occupational therapy practice.
  5. The agency ensures that a qualified Occupational Therapist is always accessible by telecommunications to the COTA at all times while the COTA is treating patients.
  6. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
  7. Performs other duties as assigned.

Other Information This position requires a minimum formal education of Associate Degree and minimum of 12 months job-related experience.

License If visits to patients homes are needed, a current valid drivers license and access to a good working vehicle are required.

Certification Certified OT Assistant.

  • Manual: Significant manual skills, motor coord & finger dexterity
  • Occupational: Significant occupational risk
  • Physical Effort: Very Heavy effort. May exert up to 50 lbs. force
  • Physical Environment: Some exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.
